Description
I found some silver fabric and wanted to try making a robot bunny with it. I like the look, but the silver fabric frays a lot. It would be cool to find some silver fabric with a bit of stretch that doesn't fray so much...for TOAE '09. (July 10-12 in toronto)

I love your bunny!
I would so buy one if I was allowed for my parents to buy online from other artists.

Have you tried fray-stop? It's available at most fabric stores and it's saved me from going crazy numerous times.

I did use that on this bunny, and it would have looked much worse if I hadn't!

When I need shiny fabric I use spandex. It doesn't fray at all, although it is really stretchy, so it might not work for you. worth a try tho right? [link]

Spandex might work too...I used felt underneath so that the shape would be the same as my usual plushrooms, so I don't think it would stretch more than usual. thanks!

I know what you're saying about annoying fabric fraying at the edges. It can really ruin a project if you're not careful. I must say though that you did a great job despite that. This is very creative!

Was this tissue lame'? I know that frays like a mofo. There's a silver fabric called liquid silver, but it doesn't have the same kind of effect. It looks more shiney silver than like metal/aluminum like what you made the bunny out of does.
There's also silver vinyl!

I was thinking of using vinyl! I don't know what sort of fabric I used...I just found it on the fabric shelves in my sewing room, haha.

I love the pompoms I use for the robot bunny tails so much, but I'm running out! I keep looking for them everywhere but can't find them. The store I originally bought them at went kaputs, and I can't find them online. Poor robot bunnies are going to end up being a limited edition!

I was going to ask where you got them! I've seen them before in all different sizes, but I didn't know their technical name and I haven't seen them anywhere. I really do hope you find some more! I just can't get over what a good idea it is, it looks like electricity is flowing through his tail. It's the littlest of details like that, that make you a great artist!

i was thinking now that you're branching out with the plushroom designs, that you should do some kind of mutant plushroom! like more than two eyes or extra limbs or something like that, like radioactive toxic plushrooms. they could even be in bright green fabric! does glow in the dark fabric exist????

BibelotForest In reply to mooncalfe [2009-07-08 17:25:45 +0000 UTC]
haha that's a neat idea. I could do it as a one-off. I don't think glow in the dark felt exists...I do have some neon colours and a lime green which is pretty bright. hmm...
