I did this to kill some time. I started this from a tut that came with the resources attached... but ended up going off on a tangent again
I also tried a few different settings on my filters

What filters did you use ?

As I remember... A red photo filter on standard settings, a Topaz denoise filter (but you can get just as good of an effect with the denoise filter that ships with CS), a smart sharpen filter, & a black & white adjustment layer, set on multiply with the center painted out. I think I dropped a high pass on there as well, but if I did, it was on a low opacity

Don't use the Topaz filter too much, it lowers the quality of the image. Specially bad combination is Topaz + sharp, damages your image quality a lot.

Topaz was on a low setting... I also recovered the detail... no Clean was used on this, if that's what you're getting at.
