Plagued with heated arguments and constant dissatisfaction, all that could be heard from outside their third floor apartment were muffled shouts and angry footsteps most days.

Drake's father abandoned his mother as soon as he got the news of her pregnancy, leaving town without a goodbye or a sympathy gift for his unborn child. This always confused Drake growing up with questions like 'why did he have to leave?', 'how am I left to suffer alone?', 'doesn't he care at all about me?', leaving him hurt and sensitive to the topic of fathers.

School went fairly well. Under the constant nagging of his mother, he kept his grades impressively high at the sacrifice of spending time with his peers outside class. This left him alone in many ways. He felt unwanted, uncared for almost always. His teachers noticed this of course and occasionally would take the time out to have small-talk with him about his friends and grades, but those conversations never really struck a chord within him. He appreciated their concern, but what could they do? His mother was abusive, he had no friends to watch his back, and no father to help provide better living conditions.

His job, working full-time as an assistant manager at a local organic foods store, pays minimally. He often reflected back on his choice to not pursue higher education after high school and now regretted it, favoring a sizable amount of college debt but a high paying job over no debt and just barely, microscopically scraping by.

Occasionally he will be invited to some gathering or holiday party with his co-workers, but otherwise he does not socialize often outside of his job. All he wants is to escape difficult people.
