Description This is Feathertop, from the Nathaniel Hawthorne short story by the same name. He is a scarecrow that is transformed by a witch into a human being, and kept that way only by virtue of the magical coal in his pipe; if the pipe goes out, the illusion is destroyed.

I drew him according to the more recent adaptation into a one-act play, which is set in 1770 rather than the Puritan times, cos their clothes are more fun!

Feathertop has always been one of my favorite stories and I think you've done a wonderful job of portraying his character.

Dang right clothing from the 1700s is more fun! Yikes, Feathertop is creepy; I like how you managed to make his breeches look poorly stuffed. I also like how your drew his gentlemanly posture on the right. Very, very, nice.

Hee! Thanks! He was supposed to have the posture of a dancing-master, so I tried my best to give him that flair.
