You pay when you sign up for it, like normal, but they can't reject you anymore and the new government option will be the cheaper than any other - which will encourage other companies to offer services just as cheap, maybe. If you're over a certain income you'll supposedly be required to be on some kind of healthcare.

Have you fucking HEARD what the other candidates have said? Calling women whores for using contraception (like 90% of all women by their senior years?) making blatantly racist and homophobic statements? Saying ONLY the poor classes should be taxed? Trying to block scientific studies, cut funding to programs that have saved lives, and tried to stifle voters from voting at all?

If you think Obama is the worst person about to run for president then you are either clueless to everything that any of them have said or done, or you're a fascist monster.

Sorry, but nearly every republican/conservative candidate openly and proudly opposes equal pay for women, equal marriage rights for all adults, abortion rights, environmental policies, peace policies, any kind of regulation on the lethal weaponry any idiot can get their hands on, immigration of any sort and any kind of government aid to the poor. Name me one "good point" that outweighs any of these stances, please. They literally haven't even *claimed* to stand for anything else but these little culture wars.

you do realize how rashly proportionate and stereo-typed that is, I hope. News flash: I'm a girl. I'm republican. as for equal marriage rights, you'll have to excuse my ignorance, but does that mean homosexual marrirage? Because I, for one, firmly believe that marrirage shall be between one man and one woman, nothing else. it is unnatural. Does any other animal on earth do that? I also believe that abortion is murder. Please do not take this personally, but those who encourage it are heartless. Enviromntal policies...I heard that this came up because we republicans are FOR big buisness? I think that those who are rich earned their money and it should not be taken away. I had plans for my future, but if taxing the richer people is how it's going to be, I'm moving to Canada (also for the hokey ). Peace policies: if we stoppedwar altogether like Obama promised HE would do, our 'great nation' would become extrememly vulnerable and would be overtaken in a heartbeat. 'immigration of any sort' you said. My mother happens to be a republican immigrant. These are my beliefs. THe democrats could be resonable and let me believe what I will, but they must attack what I feel is right, making me seem like the bad guy to gain their own self-support

Actually, yes, almost all other animals engage in bisexual and homosexual behavior.

It's only "wrong" according to a couple passages in the bible (while many other things we do every day are also called sinful, and ignored by Christians) and there's no reason to enforce the rules of one religion on a whole country. Homosexuals getting married cannot possibly harm anyone or in fact impact anyone else in any way, leaving no excuse to outlaw it besides, again, a bias towards one interpretation of one religion - and even many Christians support gay marriage, so why would it be fair to them to base a law on only what SOME religious people feel?

Marriage was never even a spiritual or government institution originally...its traditional purpose was to join together two families so they would work with each other to prosper. Women were seen as valuable "property" and marriage was the signing over of that property to the man. There are actually passages in the Christian bible saying that if a woman gets raped, she has to marry her rapist. Christians don't believe that anymore, but they still believe that letting two men (just as likely to truly love each other as any man and woman) get married is going to harm society? Some people just don't see the world in gender. Some people don't feel "male" or "female," and they can't change that.

I love and admire all living things, but I think abortion is practical and doesn't cause any tangible harm - as long as it's swift and humane, it's only the business of the woman who truly feels she can't bring a child into the world. Doctors need to be available who will perform such a procedure safely, and the moral issues should only be the patient's business, to me.

Nobody is calling for a tax on the rich that would make them any less rich. People just want taxes to be fair and equal, and right now they aren't, because richer people get tax cuts and pay proportionately less than poorer people. What sense does it make to take more money from people who have less? At least take the same portion from everybody

STOPPING war does not at all mean leaving ourselves vulnerable. There's nothing wrong with being well defended and having a military, but America has GONE to war and stayed at war for most of its existence, even though it has been *attacked* only a few times. I don't think a whole war against a country was a necessary retaliation to 9/11, when the terrorists responsible for it were not even tied to their government. I know people from Iraq, some even still living there, every day innocent women and children get caught in a crossfire or a stray bomb...war should be the last resort saved for when there's really, truly no other option, and I don't think our country has ever really reserved it like that.

I am shamed by those people who call themselves christians and oppose the bible, though I admit I am not perfect myself, at least I try. I am a christian, if you haven't realized already. But if there is such little population that would marry homosexually, why would we change an entire "status quo"?

it's just...This poor child never got a chance to join the world. He could have been...he could have been the next president!1 But We'll never know now...

I see where you have a point there. But I have heard many extremist views that demand that the richer be taxed until everone's 'even'

ok, the 9/11 thing was not related to a country, I'll admit. But the problem is, we already have troops out there. pulling them back would be a sign of weakness or fear, opening the door for our opposers

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

scythemantis In reply to Violetthefox0001 [2012-07-09 00:04:22 +0000 UTC]

It used to be the "status quo" that black people couldn't marry white people and women couldn't vote. What the majority believes is right isn't necessarily so. The fact remains that letting gay people marry won't harm anybody or affect anything at all - marriage is personal between the two people who want to get married, and I think absolutely all consenting adults should be able to have an official marriage. Nobody else has any real reason to stop them.

I know you believe the bible is the word of God and you believe it unquestioably, but I believe just as truly and deeply that it is nothing but a book written by humans, with nothing in its pages but mortal human words and ideas. I consider that just an obvious, undeniable and simple matter of provable fact...but I would still never tell you what to believe. How would you feel if another religion - like Catholicism, Islam, anything - became the majority in America and tried to pass laws based on what THEY considered right and wrong? That's how I and millions of other people feel when Christians try to enforce law based on biblical passages.

If I were aborted, well, I wouldn't be around to care XD ....so "potential" isn't an issue I feel like I can debate logically.

Limiting how wealthy people can be is communism, and very few people, right or left, are usually that extreme. Extremism exists in every single group though; if you can name it, there's someone taking it too far, sometimes to the point of terrorism.

I agree we can't pull back out of the middle east just yet, but not because of "weakness." We more or less defeated who we wanted to defeat and changed what we wanted to change, but we left a big mess there...we have a lot of work to do to ensure they remain stable.

Violetthefox0001 In reply to scythemantis [2012-07-09 01:05:01 +0000 UTC]

But see, the black and white marriage was because people didn't recognize african americans as human. homosexuals are not treated terrribly nationwide, or by law. I think they are nice and good people, but I just don't think it's necissarry to change a law that's been laid down for generations. See,when slavery was abolished, we were straightening out our natural laws. This may be denting them.

And, you see, that's just it. The bible is unique BECAUSE it was written by several different people. They all go along on the same idea, their writings never clash. Any other religious book was writting by ONE PERSON. Also, there is actually arceological findings that prove the bible's authenticity.
I do get how that could look wrong. But it's not JUST based on my faith to my religion. It...it doesn't FEEl right, if you know what I mean. I'm ashamed to admit it frightens me...

Did you know that one of the famous football players was almost aborted? But he wasn't and look what happened! That is particularily the fact that is frightening. Taking a life without consent of the life at stake. Is that not precisely the definition of murder? If the child is not living, then what is it?

I see. I know what it's like to have people throw extremist views against me. I apologize on this subject.

And I am glad that the war happened so.

sort of off subject, but have I asked your age? I want to know if there are others young like I feel, who want their voice to be heard as much as I would like mine to be heard.

scythemantis In reply to Violetthefox0001 [2012-07-09 04:27:36 +0000 UTC]

I don't think marriage is "natural" either though ....if you really ask me people shouldn't get legal benefits for it either way and it should just be a private, personal thing with no government or state involvement, but I guess it's nice when people can share insurance and property and such.

Talking about how might have been aborted, and who aborted fetuses could have become, is kind of irrelevant because even more people die by miscarriage, or are never conceived to begin with, and it applies to both good and bad people. It might have been nice if Hitler's mom had one, for instance (there's a myth that she considered it, but no evidence)

I still feel like a kid (maybe because I'm still not into anything "adult" and would rather watch cartoons than go out drinking) But I'm 28 and turn 29 soon...that doesn't feel a lot older than, say, 16, til I actually do math (but I'm bad at that anyway!!!)

I can't totally agree with that, but I'll leave it be.

But if a mother didn't want a child, there are plenty ways to avoid it. She shouldn't make the child pay with its life...

meh, I'm techniqually 14, so I guess I AM a kid. But I'm like you, I doubt I'll EVER drink alchohol, I just don't like the taste of it

Sadly, there is a fault to some of the comments people have been posting.

If you were to read up on your Constitution, his powers are very limited by the Legislative Branch.
In fact, without their approval, he can't do much of anything unless he has congress on his side.
And so Obama is... Democratic and Congress if mostly Republican, correct?
With that ratio, I doubtfully believe the two can work together. They will clash mostly.

Sure, you may not like Obama, but look at the mess he was thrown into! He has to be the first black president and he's expected by most to turn the economy around?
The president's mostly supposed to be a front to the nation rather than a ruler. Those who drafted the Constitution were afraid of a strong central government, which is why the president recieved minimal authority.
I'm on neither side-you can just call me Switzerland.
But hating Obama for the wrong reasons is wrong.
