Aussie: I don't know if anybody remembers the game Brutal: Paws of Fury, but in sixth grade I loved it (and I found it again in 11th grade and once more my second year of college). The fighting engine sucks hardcore, but I thought the whole anthropomorphic animals with special fighting styles that came from different countries was pretty awesome (such as Rhei Rat with his Thai kickboxing, Ivan the bear from Russia, Tai Cheetah and Foxy Roxy mastering pencak silat). So, I created Aussie to be the Australian character. He has a boomerang and is a kangaroo; how much more Australian can you get? When I was drawing the character originally, there was a kid in my homeroom (I have no clue what his name was or is) and he'd take my pictures and then color them using a mechanical pencil. They weren't realistic, just some gradients from dark to white, but at the time, they were the coolest things I had ever seen. One of the pictures he shaded was an image of Aussie. With our childish ambitions, we were quite excited at the prospect of the two of us working together, me drawing with him shading. Alas, it never came to be; I think he left our school at some point.
