So, wow. My working on this spanned over a couple of days, and I finished it last night but was too tired to submit it. I am really proud of the tree, I did that without using any tutorial.If you can't tell, the oxygen (white) emoticon is going from the tree to the tard, and the CO2 (black/grey) is going from the tard to the tree. Oxygen cycle.

This is a pretty piece of work. I find there are some things that could be adjusted, though. First, I found it difficult to understand what was going on O2/CO2 -wise. I first thought they were some sort of ghosts or aura. Which, could be true. It would give a more abstract message, I suppose.
Second, the white emote is very faint, it is really hard to see it's facial expression, in comparison to the dark emote. The blue emote seems very neutral, which I am taking he cannot see the emotes hovering in front of him.
I like the dithering style on the tree, it's not a very common style. The sun is very well suited, I really like the aura around the sun, though I could see it being a bit brighter.
All around, very nicely done.

Interesting take on the theme. I'll admit, when I first saw this I thought the emote was shooting them at the tree. 
The shading on the tree is indeed great.
P.S, I nitpicked this because it was in the critique folder.

I swear, I would do what you said, but I used multiple transparent layers that I merged together, so now I don't know what transparency I used (when you merge transparent layers in Gimp it shows 100% transparency).
