Description Nope, not me. This is a young man I have the honor of having on the fire dept. with me. He asked me to do his senior class photos for him and how could I refuse! This is one of the images that I "toyed" with that he chose for his final images.

I thought it was a painting. I love how this capture the thoughts and feeling in his eyes. The flag in the background is a great touch. It really speaks to how much he cares about his country.
The coloring is great. Everything is crisp and clean. I love how it's not a perfectly centered portrait. I feel like this person is really able to capture the mood and soul of the person and, this may be some of the best work I have seen. I can't wait to see what else he submits next. This, indeed, is a wonderful work of art.

Thanks Meena! I'm really glad you liked it I knew what I was going for the whole time with that background and just wasn't getting it. We had stopped to take a lil break and he posed like this naturally and I pulled the classic " DONT MOVE!!" lol. The "simple filter" just added that bit of POP that I was trying for.

i marked unfair because its very cool indeed but a simple adobe or editor filter isn't 5/5 material 4/5 maybe but nothing extraordinary technically

I didn't just like it for it's technical abilities. I liked it for the meaning behind it.

I just toyed with the normal things in Elements then applied the "Accented Edges" filter. Does a right nice job eh? Thank you for the comment beautiful

so is that what you were tinkering with when I last spoke to you? Very nice effect indeed.. what do you call it (other than stylized)looks kind of vectorish but not. Its a very very nice shot though and nicely composed, It's still quite moving and in a sense its an image that reminds me of the brave men (and women) who lost their lives on 9/11.. a very thought provoking shot because I'm sitting here wondering what he's thinking about (and he's kinda cute ) well done sweetie

I shall pass along your sentiments to him, it will undoubtedly make him smile. As for the effect, it is the "Accented Edges" filter in Elements. And I'm happy that someone "felt" something in this photo. For me, that is the greatest compliment a photographer can recieve!

no trips to the bar recently no - been off galavanting at the weekend though to see friends and also do a bit of happy snapping. For once I wont be submitting them here either - I have other ideas
Had other pressing matters to attempt to sort out and I've now done my share, it's up to the other people involved now - the ball is firmly in their court
Anywho, I've got to go out to the bank, get some mo-honey and then I'm off to do some shopping
Hope you're well sweetheart

lmao, Thanks dude. And nope, we've been pretty steady too. And, we have 3 new guys so we make every run a training run, even the good ole MVA's turn into lessons on "fluid mitigation" lol

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

photographicfireman In reply to bigpaganjames [2009-05-01 16:49:05 +0000 UTC]

we just had a new guy join. Do you guys run background checks and everything for the new members? takes about a month if all goes well to get into the fire dept here. No waiting lines haha, cept we actually might have to start having a waiting line like we use to a few years back. We're running out of gear and racks for gear we're getting so many members haha.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

bigpaganjames In reply to photographicfireman [2009-05-02 20:47:05 +0000 UTC]

Too many members is always better than not enough. I just hate when someone comes on then trains, makes a few runs then disappears. And yeah, we do a background check, and also we have them attend a few meetings so we can get to know them, then we vote on them. Following that, they are on 90 probation during which we can (but have never) tell them that it's not working out. Then in accordance with state laws, until they have 20 hours of basic training, on ladders, hazmat, fire behaviour, hose line ops, pumper training etc, they arent allowed to run.
