Another of my Spacegirl drawings. This one was from a couple of years ago, and it shows. Plus the scanner settings I used didn't do it justice. Oh well can't win 'em all.Related content

When they first tested the new jet boots, they had to improvise the new "docking procedure", because none of the test subjects had yet found out how to properly control their momentum. They they realized that things just did not work out: If they came in with the boots pointing away from the ship, there was no way to break and the "docking procedure" was needed. If they came in jet boots first, they were able to break and do a controlled landing. But then they needed a new airlock, because the blast of the jet boots scorched it to slag.
So the introduced the new "docking procedure" as a default. Except that they got rid of the guy doing the catching and instead used robots with suction cups.
Do suction cups work in vacuum? Of course not! But if you coat the inside of the cups with a special adhesive, it works. But don't forget to tell your new recruits that they have to apply a special coating to their, uhm, "docking orbs", otherwise they might experience problems in, well, "undocking". And the result will be embarrassed recruits with nicely shaped docking cups adhering to their, erm, "docking orbs". And they won't be able to remove them for a couple of days until the "undocking fluid" has seeped in and released the bond. Side effect: They won't be able to get their suit's zipper past the stuck cups, effectively trapping them in their suits for the time.
