Yeah - Can't wait for it!
Apparently they won't remove Dredd's helmet this time!

I like the film because of Stallone and the sheer cheese factor. Plus post-apocalypse are the best kind of future films.
I was kind of bummed that Mean had a missing arm ( although he did end up getting a limb shot off in the comics). But he was made of win.
Although I wonder what'll happen if he meets Trap-Jaw from He-man. They're both metal heads, and very pissy if messed with.

The late 80s/early-90s gave us some great Stallone stuff. This & Cliffhanger were the first of his movies I saw on the big screen and I've been fond of them ever since. I guess I'm looking forward to seeing what they do with the new Dredd film starring Karl Urban but... well, I'll still enjoy the '95 movie.
Ah Trap Jaw. I had that He-Man figure with all his alternative limbs! Good times.

2000's Trap-Jaw kicked ass ( with the super extended arm and the upgraded graphics.) I know that Dredd had a Batman cross-over. Who's to stop them from having a He-Man cross-over.

Great lighting effect. That was the best part of that sabotage of a movie.

Cheers. I have a soft-spot for the movie, although it's well & truly a guilty pleasure.
I'm contemplating doing a new digital painting based on this image.
Glad you like.

The movie was good don't get me wrong, but I expected more of a 2000AD aspect to it. Plus Sly's acting was rubbish.

I have more admiration for traditional artwork, because it is a lot harder to correct mistakes on canvas and paper! I love digital work though because i can get a lot more detail although digital art has improved my pencil work.... and now i'm rambling nonsense!!!

When I looked over the mean machine search, I thought this was just a simple photoshop manipulation to a photo! But in fact this is one of the greatest pencil works i've seen! =] amazing!

Is this drawn entirely from scratch or a modified photo/film still?
Love it. Mean the other angels and the ABC warrior were definate highlights of the Dredd film - visually, at least. Shame about everything else.

BikerScout In reply to DarkJimbo [2006-10-13 12:33:58 +0000 UTC]
Yep, drawn entirely from scratch using a film still as reference. If you look carefully, it's not really finished - his left (shoulder has more detail to come.
Applying filters to a photo does not qualify as pencil work to me and it's something I've been accused of doing before. I don't use grids either, it's entirely by eye. Apart from posting progress stages, I don't know how else to convince people of this!
Glad you like it.

Wow amazing work. Chris Cunningham did the special effects for that movie if im not mistaken (or he at least did the makeup for this character). Did you draw this on black paper with white lead?

BikerScout In reply to XMenacer [2006-01-04 12:25:23 +0000 UTC]
Wait... the same Chris Cunningham who did the Aphex Twin videos and Drummer Monkey? The reference came from a Making of Judge Dredd book. I had a lot of time back then...
The high contrast is a little misleading - it's regular graphite on white A4 paper but I did a bit of post on it in Photoshop since the black areas were incredibly scratchy looking. Usually, I don't mess with my pencil pieces but I knew this one would benefit.
Glad you like.

Yes, the very same Chris Cunningham. I am suprised to see that you didnt start on black paper, but as you said you did do minor touch ups in photoshop so I guess it makes sense. I hate to repeat myself but I really like this piece (and it goes very well with your whole gallery). Ill be watching.

Of all the pencil pieces in my gallery, I don't think I've managed to achieve the same level of detail as this. Which in one way is great, since I love this image, but at the same time it's kinda frustrating since I did this 10 years ago!
I haven't done any pencil work for a while, maybe I should try it again...
