I love the detail--the subtle white outline (which is complimented by the light in the photo), the fact that the ear looks darker (it looks closer to the viewer than the rest of his face, nice touch)... I could go on.
But my favorite thing about this piece is the fact that it has an expression. Most people have drawn Spock without... any expression at all, or at the very least looking very cross. This one didn't, and thats why I like it.
(The light in the photo also compliments the expression, don't'cha know?)

I guess what I was aiming for was a little bit of Spock and a little bit of Leonard. He always seemed to be so noble so I chose a photo to work with that I thought encapsulated some of that nobility. I've been playing about with lighting a fair bit lately - a scan is great for showing fine detail but it always looks flat. The 3D effect of the ear was semi-intentional. I wanted the focus to be his features and the iconic ear so I'm glad you picked up on that.

I would take photos instead of scanning, but where I normally draw has terrible lighting.
That's what I thought! Part of me feels a bit bad for the cast of Star Trek--their roles in the show were supposed to help them build a career, not rocket them to stardom. What if the type of character they played was not the type of character they wanted to play, you know?
Also, I can't believe William Shatner isn't going to the funeral. I mean, they drifted, sure, but they acted side-by-side in the TV show that made them famous! I mean, come on!
