Description
X-Men: "First Semester"Welcome to your first semester at the the Charles Xavier School for Gifted Youngsters, kids. Hope you survive the experience! As much as I love Wolverine, Storm, Rogue and the rest, I have a special fondness for the original five X-Men. It was like "The Breakfast Club" with eye blasts and telekinesis. It's too bad Marvel rushed through the team's high school years, unaware of the group's future longevity. Here's my version the the team's early days, playing up each of their personalities...
There's sullen Scott Summers (Cyclops), wealthy gadabout Warren Worthington III (Angel), beautiful and brainy Jean Grey (Marvel Girl), boisterous Bobby Drake (Iceman) and brutish yet bookish Hank McCoy (Beast). Now get to class, muties!

This is absolutely great! The cartoony style is like a Colleen Coover or Chris Giarusso. I wouldn't change a thing!

Your chosen style works quite well with your chosen subject matter. You've asked for critiques, but I have nothing really to criticize!

To correct what BenRG said about all four boys liking Jean, only Scott, Warren and Hank liked her. Bobby just thought the others were being kind of ridiculous. Other that that, this picture is great! I love all of your versions of Marvel stuff.

People forget that Scott and Jean took a while to happen. When Jean first arrived at the Mansion (and she was the last of the Original Five to be recruited), all four boys were hitting on her like crazy.

It really is how amazing you captured their personalities. I mean, poor ol' Scotty sulking around. Little does he know he's going to grow up to marry two foxy redheads, flirt with a thong-wearing Asian chick who used to be white and have a lengthy relationship with a woman who likes to raid Cher's closet. What I actually really love is the slight interaction there between Jean and Warren. Boy thinks he's all that and a bag of chips -- but even his money can't buy Jean's love. Heheh. Great job this is so cool!

Um, this is like, the most epic thing ever. I love how perfectly you captured their personalities. And the whole Warren-Jean-Scott thing.

Love how you've got Iceman making snowballs- I'm guessing that's a shout-out to the days when he covered himself with snow as opposed to ice?

Likes how you drew them! The somewhat retro clothing style really fits, too (or I'm just lousy at recognizing fashion) as well as the "school starts = autumn" symbolism.
I could see this as a Saturday Cartoon.

Thanks! And Oh, I DEFINITELY wanted to keep the clothes with a sort of retro feeling, even going back to old issues and emulating the clothes -- like Jean's beret and the sweaters!
