Description Rather old and quick picture to accompany the same material as that was, I believe on a slide about how after Felix the Cat got popular, numerous others with highly similar designs appeared, grasping at fame for themselves.Β  Perhaps not up to my "standard," but neither were the other two things I uploaded today, so sure, let us dump this in, too.

I never liked the black body, white face style of character design much, but I definitely find the pointier, error-prone mickey mouse infinitely preferable to the infallible, personality-free edition that has been the product-shilling standard my entire lifetime.

mickey definitely had more character when he first started... though to be fair, a lot of old cartoons back then had the same sort of mischievous personality since they all wanted to capitalize on the same sort of audience
it was still more interesting though

i watched a lot of felix the cat when i was young in peru but i barely remember any of it... now felix is mainly remembered by that little clock that shows up in movies and such sometimes

Isn't Felix from a different studio than Mickey? May as well throw Sonic in for good measure.

Sonic belongs to the 1990s and never appeared in any pre-sound, pre-color cartoons.Β  However, Felix is from 1919 and Mickey is from 1928, and ultimately shoved Felix into relative obscurity since Pat Sullivan and Otto Mesmer were reluctant to produce Felix films with audio, from what I understand.

I actually seen a few Felix cartoons with sound, but yes. I have never heard of him until Sonic had already come out. Although I knew immediately he was similar age as Steamboat Willy.

Felix sound cartoons were not made until 1932, by which point much competitive momentum had been lost.Β  The character has, consequently, had a few different owners through the years, and of course sound, color cartoons are more likely to be broadcast on television, so details easily go unknown without a media machine like the present-day Disney company to regularly present its own view of history.

Have you seen the 1991 (or 1988 depending on where you were) Hungarian Felix the Cat movie ? It's really entertaining, totally weird, and definitely worth watching.

I have not, but I recall you mentioning it in the past and I suppose I ought to look it up sometime now that I have been reminded of it.
