Description
photo found on the net, (a regular nature photo) this is to test the quality of the image of the panasonic GF1 (important note : this is from jpg and not RAW file)I also heard of the Pen E-P2, I got to test this one also.. any one got a tip on the best 4:3 camera here ? (for video/hard quality files with good saturation and not too huge stuff)
quite good anyway !

I've tested GF1 and Olympus EP-1 and it's hard to pick one over the other, really.
If you want JPGs straight out of the camera, I'd say EP-1 wins by far! Even compared to most DSLRs, especially when it comes to color rendition and overall feeling. I find ISO slightly better on EP-1 also compared to GF1, plus EP-1 looks better imho. EP-1 also has in body image stabilization.
On the other hand, GF1 has better Auto Focus (noticeably faster), on board Flash and, at least on the paper, better processor (CMOS).
If you're shooting RAW and don't mind PP your photos, I'd say take GF1 for it has a better AF. If not, take EP-1.
In both cases, I'd buy Panasonic 20mm/f1.7 Pancake lens.
For most people, Olympus EP-1 + Panasonic 20mm/f1.7 lens is a winning combo if you ask me.
Micro Four Thirds (m4/3) system is still very much new and in the upcoming years I'm expecting a lot of improvements. I am thinking of buying one of those cameras myself, with a couple of m4/3 lenses.

thanks for your advice, then i think i fit in the GF1 catΓ©gory. I was indeed thinking of the 20mm lens and also an adaptator to connect my fisheye sigma for canon also. The movie quality seems also quite fair (and i'd like to play with the cool depth of field / manual focus) .
is the addon [link] really important you think ? you used it with the lcd screen only ?

That link doesn't work (at least for me), but I assume you're talking about the EVF (electric viewfinder). I personally didn't use one. It took me 30 min to get use to looking through the LCD screen. It's not that awkward after a while, really.
I'm still undecided about the two cameras. Coupled with some good lenses (Oly has some really great SHG lenses) EP-1 are capable of some amazing results, not worse than even pro DSLR cameras can produce. Not sure why is that, but Oly definitely has done something nifty when it comes to their inside the camera sensor/processor. With adapters, you can use pretty much anything on it (same with GF1 actually) and that's pretty cool.
But the whole idea of the concept is that it's small and it can fit into a larger pocket and 20mm or 17mm lens are perfect for that.
DoF is not great on m4/3 cause of it's sensor size (you won't get that nice bokeh/DoF as you can from a DSLR), but it's decent.
Here's one very nice test of the GF1: [link] - photographs are stunning there.
I'm thinking of GF1 myself... Good luck

Congrats on the purchase. I envy you. I don't have the money at the moment to buy it.
Glad you like it. I'm sure it will bring you a lot of joy.
Good luck with it and post some photos as soon as possible - hehe.
