Some day he'll wake up and realize what a waste all that time spent on a two bit show-pony like Rarity was when he had Twilight there the whole time; always willing to put up with his obsession, and even help out any way she could, just to see him happy.UPDATE:
Note: I am not suggesting 'shipping. Dragon/Pony does not belong regardless of who the pony is. I'm just suggesting that he probably does not fully appreciate their friendship.

Further proof Spike hasnt got a clue about romance. Even if Rairity liked him like that( and she dosent) theres still there age. By the time he gets to their age in dragon years, she'l be old and wrinkly(or close to it). He needs to find a dragoness his own age( and throw away his misconception about his own kind. Dragons will never be what he wants them to be.)

You're definitely onto something. I always see their relationship as being like family, even more like being married more than siblings at times. Even though Twilight gives him a lot of grief, perhaps unintentionally for the most part, she does show some great moments of caring and sacrifice for him.
I can see the determination and twinge of anger in Twilight's eyes, perhaps some annoyance for Spike's request along with her anger at the bad dogs. Both of them look terrific, very clean lines and a very nice job on the flat coloring.
The perspective of Twilight's cutie mark is great, but the mark itself is a bit off: there's a white star "under" her main dark one, with its points barely peeking out from the inside corners of the main star (not as far as the main); there are only five surrounding stars, probably representing the five other Elements of Harmony. (At least that's the trick I use to remember it, with the "covered" star being Twilight's spark.)
That certainly doesn't take away from the enjoyment any, and I almost hate to mention it.
The rope and stone sword look good, and I especially love Twilight's pose, rearing up before the charge. It's a terrific picture.

unfortunetly, i cannot condone such a pairing. a purple dragon plus purple pony could risk creating a purple fuzzy dinosaur, and i cannot tolerate such a creature to come into existence and threaten all equestria!
