Oh gawds, if i could remember the hours to count, that'd be a phenominal number x_x
uhm.. basically just go with it being most of my life just spinning any random thing that vaguely resembled a stick.
Branches, brooms, sticks, other people's staffs, canes... and then about a month's worth of regular weekend practice with an actual un-lit staff before i could be confident enough to set it on fire and not hit myself XD
Mmmm, yes.. i'd put it down to at least as many hours as it takes until you feel confident enough that you won't hit yourself.

Eh, it's a start.
Basically work with that but on ever increasing widths, if you can, until you can get your fingers around a staff width (about an inch at the most), even if it isn't smooth or fast, it'll at least help, and it can be constantly practiced as you go.
So with all that, i recommend a lot of practice =, Invest in a proper, well-made fire staff and practice with it, and when you're confident enough with your skills, then try setting it on fire.
When it's on fire, you shift straight back to basics and practice them all over again, because i can garuntee you right now, when the thing's on fire, it's a whole new different feeling and subconcious level of caution you have to get used to o.o

Whee, I'm starting with poi since I can get away with making a set of practice poi without alerting my mother to anything. I can understand why you'd wanna start over, because it really would be totally different. When I can I suppose I'll try this.

Aaah, straight into the tricky ambidextrous stuff =,
That's still a good place to start, just make sure to practice everything with both hands and in both directions (forwards and backwards).
It also means that, with a lot of poi practice, if you decide to take up the staff too, it'll be heaps easier to pick up cos you'll have all the ambi-skills from the poi
Why is your mother finding out a problem? o.o
Mmm, it really does need to be experienced to be understood though, so for now, just take it as some advice for the future, so you aren't so taken by suprise by it =,

Yeah, I'm rather ambi anyways so it shan't be much of a problem. Trying to keep my left hand from being dominant will be interesting XD.

yeah, i have that left-hand-dominance thing too =, It's a trick to get over, but just keep up the right-hand practice a bit more and it should be over-come-able.

Uhh, I'm the detached one, but he likes dangerous and crazy things, and my mum is beyond paranoid.
I'm supposed to be right handed is what is so amusing about my occasional left-hand dominance. It shan't be hard to do as long as I practice with both equally more or less because tis something my body isn't used to doing so I have room to equal it out.

Blah, was supposed to draw a couple pictures of various tissues in a plant, but only got around to three of them and totally screwed over the conclusion. Labs are how I fail science classes. I also had to do a presentation on a plant of my choice, something I did earlier today (tuesday). Sorry it took me so long to get back, yesterday was rather...dramatic for me.

Well, if labs are where you fail, then you pretty much know where you have to focus your attention the most, if given that you have heaps of it to spare.
If there's something to learn from school, it's that being spoon-fed is one thing, but being creative about it will get you noticed.
...whether this turns out to be a good or bad noticed is all dependant on who notices you <.<
And out of sheer curiousity, i'm going to ask: what plant did you choose? =3

I chose Lucky Bamboo, which IS NOT bamboo at all. Bamboo is native to Asia, not west Africa.

Because it just loks the coolest. I've tried things like turning flowers and corkscrews and stuff but only the firestorm gets that good solid Frame filling effect.

Eh, these things burn too warm (if you use the right fuels) to start any real fires, unless the place happens to be drenched in oil or extremely dry grass =b

Yeah. It's only natural. Not -ion -yon or -lon blending in it at all.
I've hit myself and brushed these items of clothing many times now with both staff and poi over two seperate nights and none of it caught alight.
