Description I wanted to go through it again because some of it displeased me, like the excessively long robes, so I've gave him some sort of torn cape instead . I was trying to find a brush for the cape to have some sort of fur-like effect, and came across a watery brush? I think that's the name, and it served quite well and used in most of the art. I was thinking of some sort of setting sun as a background this time, (so it's more visible). The glow on the sword I've removed, seemed unnecissary to me... I also put a satchel onto his left. All in all, I had fun with this, messing around with 8500x8500 resolutions, ofc, I cropped it down for this. what amazed me personally is this took nearly the same ammount of time as the last one that I did...

My brother said it reminded him of when you meet solaire there's that door to the depths on dark souls. hehe.

Saw that you wanted critique, figured I'd look at your most recent.

I like what you did with the glow of the sunset, It works very well on the background.  I also like the wood effects; they're cartoonish but you can tell that the stuff is supposed to be wood.

I'm not sure what's going on with the teal, white, and purple swirl stuff.  What is that supposed to be?  A magic aura or spell cast?
And for the stones on the ground, It'll seem a lot more like he's actually standing on them if you use perspective drawing.  All of the horizontal lines should be at about a 30 degree angle with the bottom of the picture in this case.

You put a fair amount of effort into making a background for your character, which is good and a good thing to get used to.  I still drag my heels about adding backgrounds, so you're off to a nice start.  If you want to make a character stand out from the background in a very bold way, work on your shadows.  Having the character's shadow against the wall will really give the image some depth.

Is that helpful?

yes it is thanks, the dark blue's teals and such is supposed to be reminiscent of flames, I stated in the last image which is basically a first try of this, that the flames is an asthetic effect given off by the mask and nothing more. As for the shadows, I might go back and cast it onto the floor instead of the wall as the light is coming from left to right. as for the 30 degree thing, I got no idea xD, Might move the background up and make it look like he's standing in the middle of the road.
