Yes, it is a strain on biological functions. That's why jetbirds are far from being endurance flyers, only moving around in high-speed bursts. They also have an extremely high-energy diet (fruits, nuts, and/or small simple animals) along with highly efficient digestive and respiratory systems that work together for their combustion flight.
