Ribbonfish persist not only in fresh water, but also in the oceans of Epimethius. Their internal gill structures have a special filtration system that removes salt from the water they take in and release it in tiny pellets. Species with stiff ribbons commonly take to open areas, while broad- and long-ribbon types stick to the seabed and plant-filled regions.
