OOOKAY.
So, there's these 3 kids, Sora (main character), Riku & Kairi, who live on Destiny Island. They want to explore the world, so they're building a boat. when the game starts youve just finished it, and are planning to depart the next day. but then during the night, Sora wakes up and sees this weird dark stuff everywhere, and he immediately leaves to go find Riku and Kairi. he finds Riku first, but he gets swallowed (willingly, mind you) by the darkness. and then suddenly you have to battle this giant...dark....thing. BUT you get swallowed anyway (and the entire island) and you wake up in a different world, in Traverse Town.
So in short the bad guy messed something up and now all the worlds are covered in darkness and you have to save them with your KEYBLADE~!! (which actually belongs to riku, but since he chose darkness over light, the keyblade chose Sora instead.)
you go around to allll these different disney worlds with Donald and Goofy, saving them. etc, etc, you beat the main bad guy, BUT.
There's the 'door to light'. (i dont really know what that is because i havent beaten the game yet) So at the end, youre reunited with Riku, and you try to close the door and seal the darkness in. but you 2 pushing cant close it, so Riku goes on the other side to pull it shut while Sora keeps pushing. Meaning Riku is trapped inside. sadface. BUTTT you swear to find him later, etc.
some other stuff happens but i dont know.

and i havent played much of the second game but i CAN tell you that
IN THE FIRST GAME somewhere in the middle ish, Sora gets turned into a heartless (the monster things), so at that point, his nobody (Roxas) is created,
SO
since Sora is asleep for a year so Namine can re-chain his memories ( i have no idea), KHII starts with Roxas.
and its very sad.

and yeah, when Sora's hanging with riku and kairi and he's actually HAPPY, yeah it's funny.
