Ehehe, don't worry man, I don't know most of them, just thought they were cool. In the games I used only ultra balls.

wow this is the best pokeball renders i've ever seen !!

if you don't mind can you tell how do you make that custom shape and materials?

i'm a cinema4d beginner.

really glad if you could help or share some tips. Β Β

Thank you very much, my friend!
Well, it's kinda hard to explain modeling, but if I remember correctly, I just used a regular sphere primitive, deleted the middle row of polygons (for the outside, the inside is another black sphere) and deleted one of the poles.
The materials are simple, actually, just a color and a reflection channel with a fresnel shader. The key here is to use an HDR image on a sky object, a spherical photograph so the materials have something "detailed" to reflect.

okay i've been looking and following tutorials around youtube to modeling the regular pokeball.

but right now i am really curious how to customize the pokeball colors (or image), i mean like how do you color that custom shape

(examples; the moon shape on the moonball, the thunder-like shape on the fastball, the multiple circle shape on the repeatball, etc..)

it seems like i can't do that because it only select rectangle shape on the sphere (when i'm using polygon selection tool), so i can only color the pokeball with blocky colors.

if you don't mind again i really want to know how can we color that custom shape image. thank you so much

For that I use textures. A simple image with and alpha channel. You just have to choose a projection method that works best.
You can also use textures to add scratches and other details.

For the last three months I thought these were actually real metallic PokΓ©balls! I've been wanting them so badly ever since I first saw your picture!! But now when I read the comments, I suddenly realize that they're not even real! (My life is a lie!)

But I have to say it's pretty amazing! So much it tricked me into thinking it was real for 3 months... -.-
But great job anyway!

Ehehehe, well, sorry for that, I would love to have REAL versions of them too.
And thank you very much!

Yeah, this image is completely out of my control already. But I'm actually not upset with people sharing it. I mean, it's cool to see that people like it.
Still, I really appreciate you taking the time to warn me. Thank you very much, my friend!

uuugh, awesome! I keep hearing about that program (my school has it apparently) but I haven't used it yet. I'll get to it one day

It's pretty cool, specially cause the interface is so much more intuitive than other programs of the same type.

I believe so, but I don't have much experience with 3D to tell what's the advantages of each software. For the few things I've done, I loved Cinema4D, specially it's renderer. I think it can give awesome results.
(and sorry for taking so long to reply)

sadly the pokedex don't have any info on the pokeballs so this walking pokedex only knows the pokemon.

BionicleGahlok In reply to powerfulnidoqueen91 [2013-06-25 03:25:17 +0000 UTC]

The pokemon are more relevant anyway. All those pokeballs may have a purpose in the games, but outside of that context I think the classic one is more than enough.

I used Cinema 4D, actually, but the models are very simple. What makes the reflections and the lighting is an HDR photo.
