i always thought they were mysterious hooded beings....but idk

No. One thing that supports my theory is that they seem to be the only creatures that seem to wear clothing all over their body, for as far as we've got any pictures from them. Another thing is that they designed the matoran, and the matoran have a humanoid build, but are ment to be workers. We humans seem to have the strange habit of making robots look like us, even though our body aren't the most convenient for the work a matoran has to do, so the matoran are made more compact

Well, toa are the guards or supervisors, so it makes sense to make them look more like the real creators, give them weapons and armor, and more human anatomy Β than matoran and rahi have, to use the fighting style that fits to their weapon/tool.
I think glatorian are either another race of bionicle, or a generation of offsprings of the Great Beings, on which has been experimented.Β
