ubuntu is the most popular installation of linux in the world and it holds a major market share (87% ... about the same number windows has over the entire OS market) and has skyrocketed after 10.10 in downloads and happy users

its not going anyware and for 3d acceleration make sure you have the proper OEM linux driver for your graphics card and ATI does not soupport linux with open arms like nvidia or intel does so be careful with that also

i have had no problems remaping my keys i actully use ubuntu 10.10 to type my book in russian while replying to emails in english than hopping on pixiv and typing jap and i have every key macroed out for programming ease

Well it is ati hardware, but it worked all right and now it does not - it means OS got worse. And if you're about to say CERN employees and co-workers are lintards, your choice.

well ati is such a small minority of the graphics card market if they dont want to hop on the bandwagon with linux than its the falt of ATI ... i guess the only guy who made ATI drivers for linux switched over XD

i find ubuntu 10 to be better than 9 ... 9 was better than 8 ... 8 was better than 7 and so on

and ubuntu 10.10 just came out so i guess give them a bit of bug fixing ... 10.2 did not support my laptops wifi card but 10.10 did so they improve on this stuff faster than windows
