Just a note you can turn any background into a night background by putting a semi transparent layer over it that is 50% blue, 50%black. Sometimes you need to play with the transparency a bit to get the look right, but it reliably changes the palette of everything.

How far did you get on your Tarot card brainstorm? I left around 10pm my time, cause that was way after my bed time. I can stay up as late as I want, but I can never seem to sleep past 5 AM...
The Tarot cart project seems like a really neat idea, and probably a good collaborative project, because of the scale. Will you be going for a medieval feel in the artwork, or something closer to the shows style?

I wouldn't be emulating the traditional style of the cards - but would probably be emulating the poses and symbols. It would be in the regular pony style, though - for clarity - though I'll probably use shading instead of plain flat colors.
I'm not too sure about collabs. I'm such a picky jerk when it all comes down. Too much of a control freak, I guess. As for how far I got, I worked out the major arcana completely - which managed to have the Mane 6, and most of rest of the major characters and villians. I managed to completely avoid having any BG characters in the Major arcana (though there was much rallying for Derpy or Dr. Whooves to be in there) - I want those popular characters open for usage in the face cards for the suits, definitely.
I think from here, I can break down the facecards tonight, though I'm still puzzling over the suits and whether the Earth ponies should be Coins or Wands. And what the other suit would be.
Actually, just had a thought about that - if Coins are Earth ponies - one could make Wands young ponies (fillies and colts - with no racial breakdown). That way 3 of the suits are adult ponies, and the remaining suit is for young ponies (because there are a LOT of young ponies).
Hmm...I shall have to ponder this more...

Sounds like you have a lot figured out. Honestly, you could stay in the apple family and have most of the coins covered...
I like your idea of the wands being the young ponies. The Cutie mark crusaders could cover your face cards, and the Ace (which I think you said was usually a symbol) could be the CMC logo from their capes. I'd be interested to see what you come up with.
