It is continued in Magic practice: Basic Telekenesis. As for Twilight continuing to process what happened... I will get back to it eventually

Ok, your stuff is starting to amaze me. You weren't very good to begin with, but you've gotten a lot better as time goes on, and you're starting to build a bit of a backstory. It might be a good idea, if you're going to continue with all of this backstory, to go and actually make this a webcomic. I think you've got potential, and might make it.

Thank you very much for your kind words. I am honestly as surprised as anyone I have come this far in my comics and artwork. I was just a boring old naval officer before this...

It's funny, there have been several times in my comics where I thought "there is no way I am ever going to beat this one", then I some how manage. I attribute the increasingly large following I am getting on deviantART

There are many watchers who provide me with a lot of feed back, and plenty of ideas. I see my work as a community effort. the more watchers I had, the more ideas I was getting, which lead to better comics, which got more followers...

and luckily, my artwork has kept up with the ideas.

This is brilliant. And directed me to the full Tub Time set (I'd only read the first one before).

Out of interest; were you going to do more backgrounds? I was thinking of making a short Trixie comic where she goes back to her parents' house (to complain about her Ponyville experience ). I'm thinking her parents live in a pony city. Something like Applejack's Manehatten room from The Cutie Mark Chronicles would be great but that room's only shown in the dark.

So if you ever felt like doing a "anyone's use" background of a young middle class pony's bedroom let me know. I suck at backgrounds but you seem to be really good at them!

Thanks, that was the culmination of about 4 months of futzing with comics. I have finally got my art style down where I can make more elaborate comics with a reasonable investment in time.

I get inklings from time to time to do backgrounds, generally when my comics demand it, or I am at a loss for other stuff to do. they are generally colossal inputs of time from me, taking between 6 and 10 hours to do (i am such a perfectionist some times). that is why my environs for my comics tend to be fairly limited...

I am about to move overseas, so a background project is not in the immediate horizon, though I think I will do one once I get to Australia as a warm up

Converting a night time palette to a day time is not difficult. I figured how the show goes from day to night, so reversing the process is not too difficult, just a little time consuming.

I'm not sure what program you use, but if you make a 30% transparency layer of color R:0 G:0 B:127, any color underneath that layer is converted to night-time palette. to reverse the process take some trial and error, by dropping colors you think are close under the semi transparent layer, and looking at the result.

I'm not a huge fan of trolestia or Molestia either, but I like poking fun at pony memes in my art.

My latest was poking fun at wet manes by doing a wet mane granny smith... (old granny smith)

Norcon72 In reply to Birdco [2012-01-24 18:39:56 +0000 UTC]

Its about Sweetie Belle traveling around the multiverse Quantum Leap stile. The reason I brought it up was, the story starts out with Sweetie taking magic lessons from from Twilight.

Its an amazing story, and I highly recommend it, if your interested, it can be found here: [link]

I draw all of my character poses separate from the back ground, so I can re-use them when I can.

since I am in such a show accurate style, my character drawing are a significant investment of time. each one is about an hour and a half of effort.

I have to keep a fine balance between time spent on the comic, and the message I am trying to get across.

can u give me some advice to draw mane and tails?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Birdco In reply to fuzzyhead12 [2012-01-21 12:36:34 +0000 UTC]

Manes and tails... Practice Practice Practice...

When I do a character sketch, or in fact the digital drawing, I do the mane and tail after I finish the body outline. that way I have the body shape to help guide the shape and scale of the mane and tail.

I frequently have a reference of the basic shape I want used up on the screen when I am sketching, so I can refer back to shape and scale.

when sketching, start really light, so you can erase easily, (because you will, a lot), and don't darken in the lines until you are happy with the general shape.

And experiment, I am using my wet mane series of pictures to improve.
