Description
Edit 3 : Still working on this, though it's going slow. Still quite a bit refining to do, and then to do some brush work, and make that face less Photoshop smooth.I don't particularly like using references for images that I may consider one day selling as prints, but if I can't get some acceptable forms on those flowers I may have to cave in. They started as quite sharp and pointy leaves, but they've eventually ended up rounded. It's not just about lines, but the shading as well, quite a few of them just doesn't look like they have a petal thickness. They seem chunky and too solid.
I also don't quite know how to improve the far background, I imagine some willow trees and suchlike, but it doesn't look quite right as it is.
Any others comment to help me making the submerged figure more realistic in the water, improving the composition or anything that comes to mind, feel free to share your opinion

Hi, and sorry for such a late reply. I've been gone for a long while, and am now trying to answer at least some of my many forlorn comments. Basically the long ones and the questions. Anyway, thank you for the kind words and for the suggestions

ALmost painful to see... this raw emotion. Desperation and helplessness. Well done expressing the emotions clearly. Lovely color shown in the lotus flowers, they bring a nice and peaceful attitude to this sorrowful picture. Incredible job!

very interesting! I like the use of color here, it looks very harmonic. The details are very nice and I really like the texture you created with the brush strokes, gives the picture a nice touch! maybe the contrast could be a little higher, but apart from that it is really nice!

First of all, this is a really gorgeous piece! I love your painting technique to bits! Those little lines you use add so much to your pictures and make them really interesting to look at
I don't think you should worry about using references, not at all! Particularly when it comes to those small things in the image, like flowers or mechanics or other items. Drawing from references will only help you learn how the subject looks and sooner or later you'll be able to draw them completely without references I think the flowers look just perfect here though, even if they wouldn't look just like the real ones, they're very nice the way they are.
I don't really have anything to add about the rest, except that you could try toning down the brightest green in the background. There's some of the same color in the leaves up front and that makes the trees pop a bit too far into the front of the picture. Especially on the right side of the image, try either covering them with some transparent blue or making the area around them look more like they do on the left side If you'd like to try, you could also add some thin, brown branches in the trees, I think that could do good! But be sure to keep it a toned down kind of brown with lots of blue in it.
I hope this helped at least remotely...

A very ambitious piece, and very beautiful colors and loose brush strokes. I see nothing wrong with the flowers. I see one major problem though: the waterline. The water at the chin is higher than at the back of the head. It looks like the waterline is concave, and this probably wasn't your intention (or was it?). Also the angle in which the leaves are viewed is a bit too high (I think the leaves should be viewed more from the side, so they appear a bit flatter).
I hope I don't come on too harsh, because I really like this piece. Enough for faving it, in fact,

Anyway, thank you for the kind words and critique is always welcome. I actually did make it a bit curvy because i wanted to increase the impact of perspective, but i do appreciate it may not give off the look i wanted

ThanksΒ Β 2 years is probably my record in procrastination where comments are concerned.
Actually, when reading your reply it occurred to me that maybe if I added a submerged section of water I could increase the perspective feel, push it a bit more perhaps, and hopefully give the viewer the feeling that they are in the water alongside her. In the same boat, as it were. Without a boat. There may be hope for this WIP yetΒ Β
