Description
Edit 3 : Still working on this, though it's going slow. Still quite a bit refining to do, and then to do some brush work, and make that face less Photoshop smooth.I don't particularly like using references for images that I may consider one day selling as prints, but if I can't get some acceptable forms on those flowers I may have to cave in. They started as quite sharp and pointy leaves, but they've eventually ended up rounded. It's not just about lines, but the shading as well, quite a few of them just doesn't look like they have a petal thickness. They seem chunky and too solid.
I also don't quite know how to improve the far background, I imagine some willow trees and suchlike, but it doesn't look quite right as it is.
Any others comment to help me making the submerged figure more realistic in the water, improving the composition or anything that comes to mind, feel free to share your opinion

Very interesting and stylish. I like the scribble-ish feeling of the background your coloration. It fits the image really well.

why hesitate to use references ? its dont mean copying, its will giv you a idea of the shape how it should be light and shadow.

Thank you for commenting, and I do look at images of those flowers, but if I go so far as to copy from those images I might not be able to sell this image as a print in the future, depending on the photographers licensing policies.

i dont say copy the flowers. how i said study the shape/form and ligth/shadow. you can even draw them in a very different way. just how i did in my latest drawing. the first battle. i put the reference pic i used as idea how to draw the landscape even it have not much or even nothing in common with the original. i just put it there for fairness. i mean every art student learn from real life. but i know you are very good because you can do it already from your idea and imagination how it looks. anyway i like your drawing and wondering how the final picture will look

Her face looks a little bit flat, but it may be caused by perspective. Nice work

Possibly, but I'll keep your comment in mind when working more on it. Perhaps there's something that can be done in the shading to plump it up in volume. Anyway, thank you very much for the feedback

Great concept and composition. You could add a few white bright highlights to the water. Maybe even some broken reflections of her head. The shading of her face is very soft, round and a little bit undefiend.
...just nitpicking Its gonna be awesome !

I don't mind nitpicking as every little bit helps, and I think most of those issues will get dealt with as I work more on it I've looked at images of people in water though, and they leave surprisingly little reflection. But I may have been looking at images with incomparable situations. I'll have to recheck. Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts about it

water and lilypads are very cool! i like the pic and idea that's why i decided to give a real help here, long commentaries of how should the pic be better drives me MAD and i think it's not really helpful, so i made this for u - [link]
Sorry it's done with a mouse not with my tablet, but i think it's quite clear anyway. With ur neat coloring style when u make all changes the pic would be amazing. Wish u lots of wonderful works in future, stay original)

Thank you so much for going so far as to make that, and you give some very nice suggestions too And while it may be done with mouse I think it's still very useful. I may tone down on the sparkly effects myself
Still, this was very nice of you, very nice indeed

This beautiful work catched my eye in the folder. What i most like are the small brush strokes which are giving everything here a special texture. You also did a great job on the perspective which gives the viewer the feeling that he is floating in the water next to the girl amidst the water lillies who are drawn very beautiful - i love the texture on the pads! also, great job on the multiple skin tones of the girl. there is something about your drawing technique and chose of colours that makes this picture a very beautiful sight.
So, let's get to the critique part. There is not much to say here but i have noticed the forehead of the girl seems a little too short to me. in fact i make this mistake a lot but it is really important that the forehead isn't left too short.
Also, the nose - its looking very good so far! but from this perspective you might not see the left hole of it; you just could have left it out. I hope you got what i mean. annnd, lust but not least - the hair in the water. It looks a little like she's got dreadlocks
even though the hair is floating in water you can draw it in the same volume as you'd draw it outside of the water. in this case, the hair strands have some kind of cylindric shape but i guess the ends of the hair strands would look better if their ends where "pointy"..uhg...its so hard to describe D:
Anyhow, it's a really great painting and i hope that my crit helped you a bit. maybe i just see issues where none are there but it is just my opinion.
Good luck with your next works! <3

Sorry about the late reply. You've been so generous with your time that I need to properly kick start my brain to engage in it, and for a while now there seems to be a stick jamming my mental wheels. I still feel a bit like i'm coasting on platitudes and pre-made phrases, but I don't want to leave you hanging either.
The nose was as you mentioned before and then I thought, it's not quite right. Maybe I'll have to change it back The hair is still much a work in progress, so hopefully that clumpy deadlock look won't haunt it for too long. As you're not the only one who's mentioned her forehead I may have to address that too.
Thank you for your helpful critique, it's very much appreciated
I thinks I've run out of words

Hei! I like everything picture: drawing, painting, shadows, choice of colors, background. The only thing that maybe needs extra work is the girl. She just needs little more detail on her face. Her forehead looks little to small even I know it should be smaller cuz of perspective. And ear looks little undefined. Looks like shape with black hols. Something i would change too is reduce contrast between sharpness and smoothness. Well i hope i helped

Sorry for the late reply, I had hoped to update the image with my current progress, but it hasn't gotten far enough yet to really warrant an update yet. So until then you'll just have to take my word for it that it's gotten a bit more defined and refined Thank you very much for taking the time to write that feedback

It's very pretty, especially the flowers.
However, I think the nose is a little bit awkward. You know, the place right underneath the nose and between the mouth? I think you should use a lighter color.

Very nice! I love the symbolism behind this. Hm, in terms of helpful criticism, I think maybe if you increased the contrast between the different objects/areas of the piece (making some lighter, some darker) it would make for a much better composition.

Hi! It's funny... I'm in the middle of something similar but with a photomanipulation. Something that occurred to me in mine, which occurs to me also when looking at your piece, is... how does water fall around the face and head? I think there would be more of a dip around the chin and jawline... or maybe just more transparent there. But I am not sure, haha! I like your use of reflection... I think there can be a bit more of that on the right side, where the trees would reflect in the lake. Also, for me, the sky is too flat (needs some kind of.... depth, perhaps?). I love her nose and mouth! Their shape is really lovely and realistic. The look in her eyes, to me, is reminiscent of someone who is overwhelmed. If that is what you're going for, you captured that emotion really nicely. I really can't speak to technique since I am not a painter, so I hope this feedback on composition stuff is helpful.

Thank you very much for the great critique, and I did find it quite helpful I've worked more on the image and updated it, and i hope it addresses most of the issues, though there's more to do with the water yet, and because it's not finished I haven't been very detailed with the reflections. It would be quite interesting to see your version when it's done
