Description
Commission for 2 tutorials called "Digital vs. Traditional - The eye of the tiger". The idea is to depict on a similar composition and subject both techniques, with liknesses and differences on the approach.Below you can see the traditional pastel painting and tutorial.
The idea came very smoothly thanks to the title of the tuto. It reminds me of a boxing fight -> rocky 3 -> survivor song "eye of the tiger". And as you could see in my gallery I loved painting big cats!
If you like it, you can also have a look at some of my other painting such as

Fantastic job! The fact that you are painting the fur gave me the idea to give you a tip for future projects like this. I used a similar technique on previous digital paintings for fur, however, I found that to get the real tiny fibers I needed for transitions from small tiny fur fibers to the longer fur was nearly impossible to replicate with a single point brush. What I have done is created my own custom brushes for skin, fur, and hair using very easy steps (I use Photoshop primarily for digital painting) but I know this can be done in Corel as well. If you make very small dash style marks in about a 1x1 area with pen pressure set to on, you can save that brush out and use your brush manipulators to create a varying fur pattern that will follow the curve on your pen. You can then block in the color on the base of the painting much like you already do, and then color select your light to dark transitions using the custom brushes to build up the small fur details. You can do the same and make a longer brush style with tighter spacing for your longer fur fibers. THis would then give you the transitions from the small fibers in the nose area of a tiger moving into the jawline where the fur lenght becomes longer. Again, this is a fantastic job, and I also like your other renditions of this in the traditional method as well.

Normally I draw/paint humanoid characters, but I am collecting all good tutorials and walkthroughs. Might try my hand at a cat one day.
