Tempest slowed at the tip of the mountain, looking out upon the vast valley below him, and the dark clouds that began to swell over the horizon. Flashes of lightning threatened the ground below them, and winds were already beginning to pick up. This storm was going to be nasty, and a perfect one for putting his skills to the test. Spreading his wings, Tempest took off into the approaching supercell.
   Gusts of wind tried to keep him out of the clouds and throw him down to the ground far below, and hail pelted his skin, but the alicorn persevered. After much struggle, he broke through the clouds, and made his away into the swirling darkness above. The electricity was already intense enough to make his fur stand on end, but that was just what he wanted. Tempest hoped to harness his affinity for lightning to aid him in traversing the storm. He ducked and dove left and right, to avoid the bolts of lightning that struck all around him, and snaked their way through the storm like veins. He had to be quick. He had a natural strength against electricity, but he still wasn’t immune to the potential fatal damage it could cause.
   He felt the warning prick of a spark shoot through his mane, and quickly veered to the side as a huge bolt of lightning shot through where he had just been. He had underestimated the intensity of the storm, and now it seemed to be fighting back against him. The lightning intensified, and Tempest soon began to worry if he had actually gotten in over his head.
   He shook the thought away. No, he is Tempest, Master of Storms*, and he will not be bested by that which he commands. In a stroke of wit, he gave power to his horn, which lit up with a bright blue and began to emit sparks. The electricity coursed its way down through his mane, and ended at his hooves. As his magic reached its peak, he began to generate his own lightning, as a spite to the storm. This increased his agility, and he was soon weaving through the clouds and lightning as if they weren’t moving at all.
   But he wasn’t done. Tempest wanted to bring his power to the fullest, and this storm had just what he needed. Increasing his magic use, his horn lit up as a beacon, so bright it could be seen from the ground below, and he began to do something he’d never done before; he began to absorb the lightning around him. It was different from his own magic; much more concentrated, wild and uncontrollable. Arcs of electricity leapt from his body, threatening to unleash themselves unto the world, and Tempest just barely managed to keep them contained. Once he had reached his limit, he concentrated the power, letting it course through him, and in one supercharged movement, shot himself through the air, making his way to the end of the storm in mere seconds. The energy stored in him was unleashed all at once, blinding Tempest, and turning the entire storm cloud into a shade of light gray. The rush was too much for him, and his vision slowly faded to black,
   Tempest came to on the ground, gently nestled into the dirt below where the storm had been. The skies were now a gentle lavender, fading with the setting sun, and the ground around him was blackened and burned from his impact. Tempest raised his head, triumphant. His body ached, but he had done it; he had bested the storm. However, he thought to himself, he did not plan on using the same techniques again any time soon.
