Part 30 of Jurassic World Aftermath. Im still very interested in all your ideas for where this story could go so if you do like this enough to favourite it id appreciate your comments too ^^. This parts picture is a modded reskin of the Baryonyx to match the skin for Jurassic World we saw online. Anyway on with the chapter...

“Taking Sarah’s words to heart, I sought out the one person who most around the Island considered the expert. But it was not easy to find him. Not even Ian had known much about what happened to him, only that there were rumours that he was involved in another breach of Isla Sorna in the early 2000’s. However eventually my expert was tracked down to Mongolia, on an excavation. So I headed out there. It took several days of planes, choppers and trucks to reach the site, surrounded by wind swept rocks and dusty sands. The small army of palaeontologists and tents on the horizon indicated I was nearing my destination.

We pulled up a short way away and I clambered out, shades on in the bright sun as an aged figure looked up and wiping his dusty hands on his weathered dull jeans, stood up and headed my way. We reached the middle spot together and he looked me over cautiously.

“Can I help you?”

“That depends. Are you Alan Grant.”

“That depends on why you want to know.”

I lowered my shades and pondered how to explain.

“Because Sarah Harding told me you were an expert on Raptors…”

Alan Grant frowned slightly and turned away.

“Come with me…lets have a talk…”

*

On the Island Lambert and Dua were trying to get to the bottom of what Wu was after during the breakout event. Lambert was still worried. Together were slowly retracing steps. They had both eventually ended up in the old storage room at the back.

“Well this is the last place…” Dua announced as they started going around the room.

Inside was stored all the things from the labs that weren’t needed. Incubators, boxes of fake eggs, boxes full of binders with old DNA information. None of it was considered classified or dangerous. Most of it wasn’t even operational. Lambert and Dua slowly moved around.

“If I was Wu…what would I be looking for?” Lambert muttered.

Dua ran her hands through the dust on the Incubators.

“Maybe something to get him back on top?”

“Obviously Doctor…but what from an old store room?”

There were batteries of PC towers in here too, and Dua paused at one.

“What about the computers? I mean whatever he got had to be small enough to hide”

Lambert wandered over to her and started moving towers and investigating, before he paused at one and pointed out to Dua where the screws on the tower had been disturbed and not put back properly.

“You might be on to something Doctor.”

It wasn’t difficult to unscrew the tower and Lambert peered inside with a torch. There was an obvious gap in the dust where a Hard-drive was missing. Dua and Lambert looked at each other.

“We should check the others.”

**

“Those damn islands…why can’t people leave them alone.”

Grant had not taken to my story about where I had come from well. He had used a fair few expletives as I explained inside his tent, leaning on the planning table.

“Doctor Grant…I know that you have a certain…view on the Islands…”

“A certain view? Hammonds ‘dream’ almost killed me and everyone else twice.”

“I know…and I am not here to legitimise what he did…”

“And yet you come here and brazenly tell me that you have come from…what was it? Isla Matanceros, where you are protecting the remaining dinosaurs from Jurassic World. A disaster waiting to happen.”

“We are not Jurassic World. We have no intention of creating more dinosaurs. We just want to care for the ones we can find.”

“And how long do you think that will last. Or are you just that naive?”

Grant grabbed his hat heading out to leave the tent. I spoke louder as he left.

“Doctor Harding said you were the expert on raptors. Was she wrong?”

Grant halted and lowered his head slightly looking down before looking round to me.

“Raptors? On your Island?”

“Not yet…but…maybe soon. Which is why I’m here. I want to know what we are up against.”

He walked back inside the tent fully.

“You say Doctor Harding is with you?”

“She is.”

“And she can’t tell you what you want to know?”

“She told me to find you…”

Grant sighed a little but then nodded.

“Alright…but tonight. We are in the middle of an excavation here…”

“Can I help?”

Grant looked at me oddly but nodded and led me out into the sun and the dust…

***

“So…we have 3 missing hard-drives…”

Lambert and Dua had finished looking through the old towers, unscrewing them all to peer inside.

“There could be a lot of information on those drives.”

Lambert nodded slightly before looking at the scientist.

“Any idea what might be on them?”

“Not really. We can assume its bad though if Wu wanted it.”

Lambert grumbled to himself.

“I knew I should have searched him before he left…”

“Finch was pretty clear with the rules.”

Dua and Lambert left the old storage room and she locked the doors.

“Ofcourse, atleast we know that he really did get up to something.” She said.

“That’s true…but for now all we have are some missing hard-drives.”

They started walking back towards the main areas of the building. Dua looked at Lambert.

“You know…maybe there’s a better way of finding out what he was after…”

“How do you mean?”

“Well…maybe we should plant some sort of trap for him”

Lambert looked at Dua half surprised.

“You know Doctor…I wasn’t sure I was going to like you…”

****

“Im confused…”

“About what?”

Me and Grant were working slowly on brushing away the dirt surrounding the Velociraptors claws on its foot.

“Well…its small…”

“And?”

“These aren’t the Raptors that I’ve heard described by Sarah or Ian.”

Grant sat back a little looking at me.

“The Raptors on Isla Nublar weren’t pure Velociraptors that’s for certain. Or even that species. And given what we all know about Wu and that…thing…he created…well…it seems certain to me that those Raptors on Nublar and Sorna were hybrids too.”

“That’s a horrible thought…”

Grant nodded slightly as he gently picked away more stone around the sickle claw on the raptors foot.

“Ofcourse…they are just animals at the end of the day. Do we blame them or the creators?”

“I’m not sure. The dinosaurs I have seen all seem…normal…”

“Normal is not a word I associate with Jurassic Park…or those islands.”

“You met Wu…what did you make of him?”

“Wu? Ambitious…smart…maybe even a genius. But arrogant as well. When we watched the Raptors being born in the lab, he seemed to have no worries about them.”

“You were suspicious?”

“Cautious. We all were.”

As the light slowly dimmed the team started to return to tents for food and relax. Me and Grant returned to the main tent, Grant pulling out a heavy artists book, A3 in size.

“Whats this?” I asked.

“Raptors…”

He opened it and inside were dozens of drawings and sketches of the raptors that Grant had seen on Nublar and Sorna. I was surprised.

“You kept a record?”

“More like therapy…you know how many sleepless nights we all had after Jurassic Park?”

I turned over pages, smiling at the level of detail. Then frowned and flicked between two pages.

“The Raptors on Sorna were different?”

He nodded turning the page fully to a Raptor he had met on Sorna. Its head had an array of quills, and the females drawn beneath had a totally different skin pattern. I didn’t understand it.

“They don’t look like the ones from Nublar.”

“No…they don’t.”

Grant wandered sat down with me on the opposite side of the table.

“I wondered about that for a while.”

“And?”

“Well there was plenty of reasons why. Maybe the Raptors on Nublar we met were prototypes…or just ones for us…and that the real Raptors for the park would be the ones we met on Sorna.”

“These ones do look more impressive than the dull brown ones.”

“Its also possible that since these dinosaurs were breeding that the Raptors on Sorna were this colouration due to random mutation.”

“Again…that sounds like a good explanation.”

“The other and more concerning idea, is that these Raptors were made AFTER the fail of Jurassic Park. Perhaps years after.”

I pondered that one.

“You mean by Wu?”

“Maybe…it might explain where that Spinosaurus came from…which was not on Ingens lists.”

I frowned slightly.

“So…Jurassic Park falls…and Wu what…goes back to Sorna and continues his research?”

“Maybe…research he then took to Jurassic World.”

I frowned hard. I was beginning to wonder why Finch would let the man back to the island chain at all. Grant sighed slightly shutting his book.

“It is however all speculation.”

“For the time being atleast.”

Grant sat back with me at the table.

“Raptors are the most dangerous thing we met on those islands…more than the Rex. That Rex you could feel coming... the Raptors? They hid. They hide. They wait for you to come to them. And they were smart. They could figure things out. You could see them thinking when you watched them. And according to Muldoon they would test the fences.”

“We would only have the one Raptor…”

“One?”

He shock his head a little.

“That might be even more dangerous. They are pack animals. Besides a single Raptor could still be as dangerous as a pack. If I were you…I’d find a reason to not have a Raptor on your island”

However back on Nublar things had moved fast…
