Part 27 – The Queen
Please see my page for Part 26 which is not posted on the groups as it doesn't have a dinosaur picture for it.
“…Capturing a Tyrannosaurus is not the easiest thing to do. While it might be a huge dinosaur, it was not easy to find amongst the forests and grasslands of Isla Nublar. And even when you do find one, capturing it afterwards is also not the easiest thing. In the days after I returned to the island, we got the news that Dearing and the ACU team were out hunting down Rexy ready to bring her in. Nervousness circulated the island. We knew this was going to be our biggest challenge yet. Not just capturing her. But also keeping her secure and happy.
The Rex paddock was still being built, but even in its half built status it was still quite a sight. A earthwork was being dug out of the island, to create a huge natural bank with a steep side that would be lined with smooth concreate to make it difficult for a T-rex to climb. There was then a ditch at the bottom of that, and another steep bank. The ditch would be filled with large assortments of boulders to act as another barrier for Rexy. The outer wall of electric fencing was similar to the other fencing we were using around the carnivores, while down in the ditch infront of the steep bank was a concreate wall that was based off similar walls to Jurassic World. Nearly half a metre thick, reinforced with solid metal and covered in electrified wire, these fences would be tough to crack. At the highest end of the paddock, a triple gated entrance was also being built, surrounded by double layered fencing. If all the physical and man made defences weren’t enough, there were also dozens of cameras and laser tripwire alarms ready to keep a constant watch.
Ofcourse having a paddock was one thing…the second this was capturing her.
*
The ACU teams had been tracking the Rex for days, carefully following her around the remains of Jurassic World, trying to find the right time to take her down. Both ground and air teams were working on this mission, and everyone knew the dangers of messing it up. Several tonnes of angry dinosaur.
Rexy of course had quite a reputation. She was going to be the main attraction at Jurassic Park during its opening, and ofcourse everyone knew how that had gone. After Masrani decided to re-open Nublar with Jurassic World, Rexy had been captured and had a brand new paddock built for her. Having been freed to fight the Indo Rex, she was now the queen of the island once again.
The ACU team had prepared for this most difficult of jobs. Carefully prepared darts with a powerful sedative, enough to knock the Rex out quickly but not too much that would put the dinosaur into a coma. They had also prepared the perfect ambush location, one of the large open areas where the Gyro-spheres used to travel. Ofcourse there was still no way of knowing how she would react to the chopper. The ground teams were standing by in order to make sure she didn’t cause damage to herself if the tranquilisers took longer to work than expected. And of course once unconscious the transporter choppers were waiting to take her to her old Jurassic World paddock for storage until the Matanceros one was finished.
With the Rex in position it was time to call in the chopper, and the ACU teams waited with baited breath from their down-wind hiding places as Rexy thumped through the undergrowth. As the chopper came overhead, its rotors thumping loudly the Rex turned her big head to watch and let out a low warning growl. A wave from the ground team brought the chopper closer. That made Rexy less happy, and shy turned on her claws giving the chopper an annoyed roar.
“Get closer…” radioed in the head of the ACU teams to the chopper, who was still to far away to get a good shot with the air rifles.
The choppers thundering blades edged closer and just like that Rexy had decided that she had seen enough and she turned sharply starting to gather pace as she ran for it, the ACU chopper in pursuit, one man hanging out the side with an air rifle. The ground teams watched from their hides, the Rex’s loud footsteps echoing round the valley. Atlast the Rex stopped, maybe tired out, and the chopper closed in as she roared in anger. There was a puff of gas from the chopper and the soft whistle of the dart as it hit the rex’s neck. The Rex roared in anger at the chopper making a spirited lunge at it, her jaws snapping loudly in thin air, before she went running again. The ground teams now took off from their hides in their armoured off roaders chasing her down as she slowed.
The head of the ACU team watched as she lumbered around, shaking her head in annoyance as the sedative started to take effect.
“Go on…just lay down girl…”
The Rex let out a confused grumble as she fell gently on her front and then over she went with a loud thump into the long grass, snoring gently. They had her.
