The Gates of Isla Matanceros, ready for new visitors...
The next part of my narrative -
As the sleak craft crossed the ocean heading towards the crescent shaped 'Les Cinque Mortes' or The Five Deaths; the islands that were to become my new home, I settled down to get the key details about what was going on by Cabbot Finch. I found him difficult to read and a bit egotistical but that was overshadowed by my eagerness to find out exactly what it was that he, Dearing and the rest of them were doing on these islands. Over the champagne, ordered by Finich to celebrate my new job, he begun to explain the situation.
Isla Matanceros was a smaller island compared to Nublar and even Sorna, and as such Masrani and his corporation had not considered developing it even after purchasing all of the islands. However there had in the months prior to the disaster at Nublar, been development on the island. Power supply, labratory facilities and genetic cloning hatcheries had been built along with a large pen. The idea had been to use the location for the evaluation of new species prior to their introduction to the park, the training of new ACU personel or even as a quarentine facility for sick dinosaurs. After the incident the island and its facilities had been abandoned. Now, nearly a year after the events on Nublar, the strange mix of investors and companies and charities that were taking part in this grand rescue mission had reactivated the island.
"I don't understand why theres this fear that the dinosaurs won't be able to survive alone without our interferance. Isn't that what John Hammond wanted after that Rex walked round San Diego?"
Finch had an answer ready for that question, as if he assumed it would be asked at some point. Apparently, dinosaur survival on Isla Sorna did not turn out as 'long term' as John Hammond would have liked. Ingen's own official files indicated that after the 1993 incident, Isla Sorna's populations plummeted due to excessive carnivores, disease and possiable malnutition. He also reveled that prior to Jurassic World being opened, Isla Sorna was almost plundered by poachers and that Masrani and others were well aware of the depleting dinosaur stock on the island. Finch added that the D.P.G were hot to avoid the same terriable effects to the animals. Finch's tone did not sound that worried about the Dinosaurs and i doubted he shared the same concern as Dearing and the other enviromentalists.
He continued to explain the current situation. Matanceros was up and running, and ACU teams had already gone to Nublar in order to start recovery operations. Dearing and her D.P.G lot were also there assisting with the efforts. Again, Finch seemed to have atleast some disdain for Dearing and the D.P.G. He was unashambly a buisnessman, used to making money and no doubt that was why the failing Masrani wanted him. I had the distnct impression that 'survival of the dinosaurs' and 'profitting from the dinosaurs' were one of the same for Finch.
He did however surprise me when he revealed that already some dinosaurs had been captured and moved to the island. However I would have to wait to see which ones. The island was already hoving into view, a mass of green and brown peaks, trees and the occasional rocky shore. I took the opportunity to step outside and watch the island's approach. The sea breeze and soft crashing waves made me ponder whether what I had done, joining this mix of people and groups with obviously different ideas, was a good choice. But again, as the island drew closer the news that there were already dinosaurs waiting for me to see did make me smile slightly. Even with Jurassic World open the resort and island was still an expensive affair for most. After all it was in the middle of the ocean, and reaching it required flights, boats and more. Not to mention the extreme ticket prices, and the extra expenses that were ofcourse hidden but always present at these sorts of places. More people may have seen the creatures first hand thanks to Masrani, but it was still far from being inclusive of all income ranges. I myself had never gone. This was my chance to see these animals with my own eyes.
I was surprised when Finch came behind me and patted my shoulder firmly making me jerk out from my thoughts.
"Chopper time!" he clapped his hands together like a eager kid. Apparently it turned out that not everything on the Island was working as intended. We would have to fly in from the boat to the Island. Again, another first.
The helicopter had been a...experiance. I was not a common flyer and as such, the chopper ride resulted in a degree of anxiety that Finch found funny based off the grin on his face.
"Ah don't worry...you'll get used to it in not time eh?" he laughed at my somewhat pale face. I found his cander more insulting than funny at the moment. But it faded slightly as Matanceros and its features became clearer and the peaks passed aside to reveal the small, almost quanit construction that adorned the ground near one mountain side...
