Did you know that Bismuth is element #83 on the Periodic Table!. It is known as a post-transition metal that is used in products such as Pepto Bismol, and has been used to replace fishing weights and bullets because it is non toxic and safe for the environment. It has a low melting-point of about 520 degrees. The Bismuth crystals form when the metal begins to cool from a molten state. The Crystals are called Hopper crystals because of the shape and hollow like structure. The many colors that bismuth crystals are known for are the result of the oxidized layer that forms when it is cooled.
Formally it was thought to be a completely stable element. However recently scientists discovered it has a half life of about 7 times the existence of the universe. Simply an amazing element!

The contrast of smooth egg shape and angular crystal is beautiful! Do you start with an interesting crystal and smooth down the surrounding material, or cool the outside quicker/slower?
