Did you know that Bismuth is element #83 on the Periodic Table!. It is known as a post-transition metal that is used in products such as Pepto Bismol, and has been used to replace fishing weights and bullets because it is non toxic and safe for the environment. It has a low melting-point of about 520 degrees. The Bismuth crystals form when the metal begins to cool from a molten state. The Crystals are called Hopper crystals because of the shape and hollow like structure. The many colors that bismuth crystals are known for are the result of the oxidized layer that forms when it is cooled.

Formally it was thought to be a completely stable element. However recently scientists discovered it has a half life of about 7 times the existence of the universe. Simply an amazing element!

How cool! I too love Bismuth, and it has been a favorite element project on it in A.P Chem. Its so unappreciated but it is so cool (especially when the surface oxidizes and gets that awesome pink tinge)! Anyway these are just amazing, and I particularly like the golden lighting on the middle and far right eggs! Wonderful job. Out of question (and if you don't mind) did you but the Bismuth already shaped and then cut and polish it, or did you melt down the bismuth yourself? (there is probably a better and more technical way to ask that, so I apologies)
