Demonic creatures from Bulgarian folklore that are said to haunt abandoned fountains, bridges or buildings. It's believed they are born when a person's shadow is walled in during construction. If it was a woman's shadow they will often be seen singing, crying or knitting, if it was a man then they will play the kaval or gaida.
