Thought I wouldn't make it!
The suggestion was so fun, I really wanted to give it a go.
For the #CosmicCorsairOCC
Meet Herta and her gang!
This small corsair crew is actually leaded by a human, from earth. Herta was born in a Germany much like our Germany, way back in the 1890s, as a farmer's daughter near the border. She was always a very very very subborn person, and to her parents dismay, very prone to violence.
Shortening the story to make it readable, she lost half her jaw as a civilian, thanks to projectiles of leftover mines from the war, and enrolled on a project at the time, aiming at making prosthetics for people in similar ailing. Unbeknownst to her, said project was actually a large-scale alien kidnapping incident by the people of the planet Gr._o--r, a very frail race depending on mechanization for every task, who were "recruiting" slaves from other planets hoping to have them do unpredictable work that seemed impossible to be automatized. She got a prosthetic jaw and spent decades as a slave in these conditions, until making her escape depending on the very unpredictability her kidnappers could not compute.
She ran away with Mildred - in the back - an English nurse who lived in America for years but was caught on the very same experiment upon her return to her home country because of the loss of both legs, and Heffe, an extraterrestrial undercrust aquatic being from the satellite Europa who is very lizard-like in overall look.
After running, they found themselves unable to integrate back their homeworlds' reality, and ended up looming around space. They are currently unusually old, but manage to be very active by providing themselves new prosthetics through pirating Gr._o--r's spaceships.
Through their adventures, they heard the rumor that somewhere in the sentient galaxy of KcharRr occurs an unexplained phenomenon that allows for selective time modeling. It is not very well explained, but travelers call it KcharRr's time seed, and our friends are hoping to attain it in order to hopefully retrieve the youth that was stolen from them.
And maybe live forever.
That said,
for Herta:
1*FAMILY CREST - The double leaf you can see on Herta's jacket and hat, also on the drill and Mildred's back (Cut). These guys do consider themselves family to eachother and upon learning of the fad, quickly designed their own. The leaves represent the health and youth they hope to attain, and the small dot above represents KcharRr's time seed. The leaves form a sandclock as a small reminder that they are running on a timer and might not last forever.
2*LUCKY CAP - Herta still uses her very old winter hat she used who dates back to the 1920s and wasn't that fashionable even then. It may seem unimpressive when compared to Mildred's sumptuous 1910's hatpincushion - very useful for discouraging mashers and sentinel robots alike - but it does the job of keeping the head warm and the newly knitted crest on her head.
3*TRUSTY WEAPON - The DOOMBRELLA. You see, when Herta and Mildred tried to reintegrate on earth, they could not adopt society's new structural and technology, but they quickly adopted cheap plastic. And cheap plastic translucent umbrellas were more than they ever thought they would need on life, with the side plus of being able to isolate Herta's Joulesucker - a contraption she made to "suck" energy from Gr._o--r's machines with minimal damage to their parts - which they may need - while making it recyclable for new purposes. It used to have the issue of cooling nearby organic bodies, including the user's, but guess what? Not anymore thanks to the cheap plastic umbrella integrated. Any sentinel robot/pursuing machine/whatever-runs-on-electricity caught in its range has its battery irreversibly destroyed - hence its name.
Random curiosities
-Technically speaking, all three of them are European.
-Oxygen is not very abundant in outer space but luckily Gr._o--r keeps their indoor environement pretty high on it, so they hardly ever need space suits when raiding using their drill-ship. It also helps that the average O2 concentration is higher than on earth, dueΒ to Herta's lung condition, and she keeps a nebulizer-helmet on at all times just in case.
-TheyΒ have a variety of health issues they are trying to compensate:Herta has a lung condition and an incipient neurodegenerative Parkinson-like disease, and depends on movement stabilizers to shoot - metal wires on her left arm. Her aim is still impressive. Mildred has an artificial kidney and left eye, and an external shunt to her carotid arteries. Effe, besides needing constant contact with water to breathe and hence keeping the water-filled helmet on, also has a prosthetic blood pump.
-In Europa (Jupiter's satellite), benigs much like Effe livein the vast expanse of liquid water hiding underneath the frozen crust. Effe's "breathing" actually depends on water splitting and using the resulting hydrogen fuel. His average body temperature is also much higher than you would expect.
-There are no caps in Europa's (Jupiter's satellite) culture. Effe uses it because it was a gift from Mildred and Herta.
-KcharRr is very very hard no navigate because of the unusually high amount of meteorites it has.
-Effe and Mildred alternately dub as pilots. Effe does not produce sounds or ear sound transmitted through air, so they communicate through sign language.
- Herta was chosen as captain because none of the others was really up to it.
-Mildred was taught self-defence thechniques that included stabbing with hairpins back in her teens in the 1900-1910, and refused to drop them for more convenient weapons. She did poison or electrify some of them.
-With the prosthetic legs on, Mildred heights an impressive 8 feet.
-They are kind to other organic life forms and have, in the past, adopted space-orfans, who in the meanwhile left as grown pirates in their own ships. They are ruthless with any kind of machine or robot-like being, regardless of their friendliness or disposition.
