Description
First day of Vignirs Rite of Fortitude was approaching it's end. Two handlers had kept their pace moderately calm, since they didn't want to wear their tokotas out right from off the bat, even thought both half manes were full of energy and were trying to play with each other at the start of the journey. Sunset was painting the scenery with purple and gold, shadows turned to darker shade of blue by every passing moment. One of the handlers, young man in a red hoodie was scanning his surroundings from the back of his tokota. "We should gradually start to look a place for our night camp." Teenaged goat boy with a green wool sweater and scarf nodded and let out yawn that he tried to stifle with his hand. They had a long day behind them and Vignir was feeling pretty tired even thoug he didn't want to show it. Jax reined his piebald halfmane female towards tree line. He just remembered that along the way was one place he wanted to show to his greenhorned (pun intented) trainee. "Let's go this way! I wanna show you something." Vignir and Rahkasammal followed Jax and Echo in to the forest. It didn't take long for them to arrive to a small hill, and to a inuksuk statue standing on top of it. "Whoooa...!" Vignir gasped. Cobbly formation was basking in last sunrays that made it glow with deep golden tones. Goat boy felt shivers running down of his whole body, when overwhelming feeling of something he couldn't quite grasp filled him. It was first beacon of their journey, and quite impressive at that. Jax chuckled to himself while he watched his trainee getting emotional. He could remember that same feeling of pride and achievement of reaching first official milestone of their journey clear as a day. Vignir dismounted from a back of his tokota and walked towards inuksuk statue with trembling legs and reached his hand towards it. He felt rough surface of the rock and coldness emanating from within.
Boy sighed lightly and lowered his head. 'If only dad was here..' His ears drooped. Tears were stingin in the corners of his eyes, but he didn't want to cry in front of others. Rahkasammal sensed his handlers sadness and whined softly. Tokota bumped Vignirs shoulder and that snapped boy out of his gloom. With melancholic smile on his face he turned towards his canine companion and rubbed gently back of it's snout. Jax coughed into his fist and said with encouraging smile on his face "Ehhh... You know, some people say that these inuksuks are connected to our ancestors. Maybe you can reach someone you've lost?" Jax's kind words brought a strangling feeling in Vignirs throat. He swallowed few times while trying to get in control of his feelings. "Uh... o-okay.." He stuttered, but Jax cut in. "Well, we've found our camping spot." Man pointed towards frozen pond beneath the hill they were standing at the moment. "So ummm.. I'll go get the fire started. You and Rahkis can come when you're ready." Jax climbed back to Echos back and headed toward frozen pond. "But don't take too long. You gotta earn you'r keep, kiddo." Vignir blurted an akward mixture of laugh and crying and nodded his head again. Oh god, he must have been really tired to get this emotional.
After Vignir got his emotions in check he followed his traveling partner. Darkness had fallen over the forest and surronding glade. "Yo, crybaby. Go get some water so we can make some tea." Vignirs flushed bright red under his fur. He rummaged a kettle from his overpacked backpack and headed to pond to get some water. "Come on Rahkis." Tawny tokota snorted and walked nonchalantly next to a fire, making sure to keep his distance from Jax. He was feeling cold now that they had stopped. Jax had allready mantled Echo. Female tokota stood up and followed Vignir. Vignir stamped ice with his cloven hoofed feet. "Can you break this ice over here?" Echo sniffed spot that Vignir had tapped. Echo rose up to her hindlegs and crashed her full weight againt the ice that caved in with loud creaking sound. Tokota wagged her tail proudly as she backed out from a hole created by it's immense strenght. Vignir patted Echos shoulder. "Good girl" Can you go and shake on that lazybutt Rahkis?" Echo lolled her tongue out and seemed to be laughing. After filling the kettle wih fresh water boy and piebald tokota returned at te fire and as Vignir had wished, female shaked cold water all over tawny male that woofed in surprise and fled behind his handler. Bith Jax and Vignir let out a hearty laugh while Rahkis was rolling in snow trying to dry off. When Rahkis finished his rolling, Vignir mantled him and then handlers settled down to enjoy nice cups of tea.
"You know, your mom is pretty intense. " Jax said over his steaming mug of tea. "Hm? How so?" Vignir asked and tilted his head curiously. Jax felt light sense of blushing creeping to his cheeks. "Eh, I mean. It must be tough to raise kid alone and work as herder at the same. It's pretty intense to achieve such a feat." Vignir pursed his lips slightly and loked embarressed. "Mmmhh.. Yeah, she's pretty cool. Even though she could be real pain sometimes... but I guess that's with every mom." Vignir leaned against Rahkasammals side. Tokota sniffed Vignirs tea. "You know, I was really surprised that she let me go on this journey with you." Boy glanced Jax with his horizontally pupilled eyes. " I was supposed to go with my dad, but...Guess that she felt I've waited long enough, and it was better to let me go with someone, even a human, than by myself." Light furrow appeared on Jax's forehead. "Oh yeah, she seemed to have a bit stingy tone in her speech when she adressed me." Vignir flinched and gazed down. "Oh... yeah, sorry about that. She's been like that after.. after humans.. uhh. We lost my dad to them. Some racist bastards..." Deep and awkward silence fell between them.
"O..Oh, I didn't mean it like that! I mean, you're cool for a human and mom noticed it too!" Jax scratched his head. "Aw man, I'm sorry 'bout your dad." He gave Vignir serious look. "But hey, I'll make sure you're going to have best possible journey!" He broke into cheery smile, and Vignir answered it with his own. "I won't let you go back on those words!" They clanked their mugs together. "Cheers!" After they finished their drinks, both handlers curled next to their tokotas and covered themselves under thick pelts. They both fell asleep allmost immediately, which was good, considering the journey ahead of them.

Wow so much work has been done! well done! they have curves and actually look like a body rather than a flat 2D art, the shadows on the ground has been done well as well. (just saw a bunch of art with no shadow on the ground..)
Nice use of lights too.

Heh, this thig had over 50 layers at best.
I really don't like if theres no shadows on the ground so i try to implement shadpws even if just simple ones. I think tha they'll tie characters into the bg. If it makes any sense with my bad english. :'D

I'm so happy over the friendship these two are building. Ah, it hits me right in the feels with this piece as they both have had family troubles and probably relate more than they are willing to talk about at the moment. Jax certainly feels more grateful to Eria for trusting him with her son, and will go outta his way to make this a great trip, even more so now.
Wonderful work on both the story and the image, great sunset colors and they fit together perfectly!
