I don't know why but I like it.... I love the grainyness of the pecil lines and the simplicity of the overall composition.

I think a larger depth of the field would've created a better piece, making us understand what part of the composition you were emphasizing more. But anyway good one... just don't rush into your macros... just so that you are to complete your quest. Take your time... 24 hours are more than enough to prepare an idea and to shoot it

Unfortunately, at this magnification, it's physically impossible to get much more than a millimeter of focus even at the lens' smallest apeture (which is F/16). I could have gone with a more straight on shot, but I would have had to choose between getting the most focus on the background, or the most focus on the pencil. So I took the middle ground and went with an angle that would get me good focus on both. But yes, you are right when you say it looks rushed. It is probably my most rushed piece so far, and as much as I'd like to spend 24 hours a day just working on a photo, work and everyday events eat up most of that time... and, well, on some days, it's just hard getting into the mood.
So yes, I'll admit right now that there will be bad, uninspired days, but hopefully not too many.
I do really appreciate the advanced critiques, though.

Thank you. I wanted to use a mechanical pencil for cleaner lines, but I seem to have finally lost my last one... Ah well...

I think the use of the original #2 pencil is perfect. ^_^
