Description
Hey, you - yes, you! Support this artist by buying a mug with his art on it and drink to his health! This is a slightly lightened-up version of my original piece, which some folks thought was too dark when I shared it years ago. It features a Romulan Bird of Prey from Star Trek the Original Series, which appeared in the episode "Balance of Terror". My imagination was fired-up when I read in the manuals that the Romulan Bird of Prey had landing gear and was capable of landing on a planet (like the Klingon Bird of Prey that came later).
Check out the schematics here: www.cygnus-x1.net/links/lcars/…
Note the two circular landing discs (of the tri-carriage landing gear) just visible beneath the front saucer. The rear-most lading strut (not visible) served as a large gain-plank to disembark equipment, soldiers, or whatever the need be. A slightly updated version of this original ship was seen in the recent episode of Star Trek Strange New Worlds episode 9.
In this scene above, A Romulan Centurion in the foreground has been conducting surveillance on a pre-warp civilization on the edge of the Romulan frontier. He awaits recovery from his Bird of Prey as it decloaks and floats through the mist and fog to land in the valley. Soon, he will be standing before the Senate, delivering his vital report on this world, which is ripe for conquering and colonization by the Empire.
