Oak – the king of trees. Oak symbolizes fire, longevity, power and protection. Staying under the oak strengthens natural powers of man. In the shadow of oak’s leaves were taking place coronations, trials and important deliberations. Also sacrifices often were made under oaks. It was believed that huge hollows in trunks are gates to the underworld…In the Slavic mythology oak is representation of the Universe and the symbol of axis mundi.
Photo was taken in Rogalin (Poland) – a place known from its 700-year-old oak trees. The three most famous are called Lech, Czech & Rus.

What a majestic old tree. I'd love to see it/those trees someday, I've never left the U.S. though. I hope to travel someday to lots of places and take a bunch of photos, all over the world.

Thanks, I did some search on Google Earth in the meantime and found out that it is only 200 km from my home. I may go there to take some pictures.
