Description I've wanted to draw a picture and write about how it all began with Pain, so I think this was a great way to do it. It also tells a lot about Sorrow's story as well. I hope you like it. ^^
------------------------------------
|The Stallion that changed it all|

The lush Spring air loomed in the light dun’s nostrils as she stood amidst her father’s substantial herd. She peered down from a small hilltop that overlooked the entire herd, along with her mother and father. A light smile creased her darkened muzzle when her mother gently gazed up at her proudly. The wind came through the area and breezed past the dun’s silken smoky black mane, whipping it forward and over her eyes and face. She shucked it back with a gentle toss of her neck. Her soft golden pelt shimmered in the sunlight from above. Her black legs stood out from all the rest. She wasn’t easy to miss in this herd of mainly browns and darker coats. Her beautiful brown eyes danced and lit up when her father trotted up to her and nuzzled her gently. Though something seemed to be troubling the young mare. She was usually so dapper, until recently when the Spring season rolled in.

“My sweet Daughter, you look pained, is there something that troubles you?” His voice was low and very mellow sounding. The pale dun stallion seemed relaxed in personality. He gazed at her with deep concern.

The dun, known as ‘Truth by her parents,’ looked back into her father’s eyes and gave a quick smile to him. “No Father, nothing is troubling me.” The young mare replied softly to her father’s anxious awaiting expression. Though he could tell she was lying. Her full name was ‘Sorrow’s Hidden Truth.’ They called her Truh, but she preferred to be called Sorrow, despite her near constant jovial persona.

Her mother, a dapple gray mare, sauntered up beside the two and gave her input. “I know what is troubling her, Pieute.” She whispered gently.

He looked back at her with curious eyes. “And what might that be, Dia?” He tilted his head to the side.

She smiled with assurance. “Why, our dear Sorrow is longing for a mate. Couldn’t you tell? The signs have been quite obvious as of late. She stares off into the distance wistfully, she admires the other couples, and not to mention the fact that she tends to flirt with all of the young colts in our group.” She explained truthfully.

“Mom!” She blushed and trotted off in embarrassment, flagging her tail all the way until she disappeared into the trees of the nearby forest.

Pieute and Dia watched after her with comical expressions. They knew she was ready for a mate but hated to see her lose her purity to just any stallion around. In fact, Pieute was very strict about who would cover his precious daughter. He wanted only the best for her. Not to mention the fact that he also demanded pure bloodlines in his herd, he wanted no half-bred nags amongst his herd of finely bred horses. He was very strong about his beliefs, however Sorrow just wanted someone to love her, she didn’t see race, all she saw was love.

“Seems our little girl is finally growing up.” Dia said with a light sadness about her tone.

“Indeed she is…Indeed she is. I know we‘ve raised her well, though.”

Dia nod her head once to Piuete. A single tear streamed from her eyelid as she looked away.
--
As Sorrow mortifyingly dashed deeper and deeper into the forest of Los Lobos, she noticed that there was a new scent that filled the air. It was overwhelmingly powerful. She came to a halt and began scenting the air for this lovely new smell. The aroma of someone masculine lingered through her nose. Sheer vigor filled the air around her. The feeling inside her frail body drove her nearly insane. She couldn’t hold back, she had to find out what was producing this incredible adrenaline rush within her. She galloped off into the direction of the scent. Closer and closer she became with each stride from her stealthy body. Her heart began racing and her mind went boggling. All she could think about was finding this magnificent thing. Something her body longed for, for so very long now.

Once out of the forest she made her way out onto a large clearing. The grass was tall and it prickled her belly as she cautiously walked along. Her ears perked forward and her eyes alert, she glassed through the area. For some reason all the grass was brown, yet not quite dead. But it seemed as if that was the color of the entire area. Just not lifeless, but not so full of existence either. She paused for a moment and took in her surroundings. Realizing how far she had indeed traveled away from her homelands she felt a brief moment of panic. If something were to happen to her no one could save her. Her natural instincts began taking over and she slowly began turning around. Right before she managed to walk away and out of the clearing, a large black figure caught her big brown eye. She stopped abruptly and gaped at the sight that was but before her. A large black stallion that was at least 16 hands tall, with a long white mane and tail stood nearly fifty yards away from her out in the other side of the clearing. He was facing her dead on and appeared aggressive in posture. Neck arched out, ears pinned back, but yet, this stallion seemed inviting to her as if that were possible to fathom. She couldn’t help but take a few steps towards him. But shortly after, she stopped nervously and then took her steps back. Snorting and shaking her head, she grew impenitent with her own self. As the wind picked up it danced his silky white mane and tail around, which only made Sorrow lust for him more. Everything in her frail body screamed for her to turn around and run away. This unknown stallion reeked of danger and risk. But she couldn’t help herself now, she took another few steps towards him.

Just then, the wind picked up and reversed courses. Causing the wind currents to excel in the opposite direction, picking up her sweet scent and brushing it straight past the awaiting stallion’s blackened nose. He inhaled deeply and almost seemed to savor the moment. His ears perked up for a few moments but then fell back once again. His nostrils flared and he let out a grunt like nicker, then he proceeded to turned around and walk slowly away. This instinctively made Sorrow follow gradually behind him. As she followed and kept her distance from him, he never bothered turning back to check if the mare was still there. It seemed he had all but set her in a trance like state. As he walked along a path of grass that had been flattened down from his prior arrival to the field, he kept a very set look about his face and his ears remained flat back into his skull. He knew right what he was doing, and she was falling for it so naïvely. Her parents did indeed teach her well, but not in the ways of stallions, so this was all new to her. The way her body was reacting, her thoughts and even her emotions, they were all new and inexperienced.

Once the black pelted stallion came to an abrupt halt, Sorrow all but collided into the back of his large set hips. He roared out and pinned his ears back at her, giving a warning to move away from him. She darted backward and also pinned her ears at him confusingly. He turned around and glared at her, his eyes only a piercing yellow. His pupils were so light in color that he almost looked blind. He studied over her frail body for a moment, as if trying to set a game plan for his next moves. She looked back at him sheepishly and gave a light grin, not sure what he was doing.

“Um, hello…” She said gently, almost awkwardly. “I’m Tru-” She broke off her introduction when the mighty stallion started stalking towards her.

Seeing the aggression in his eyes she immediately started backing away from him in fear. His nostrils flared out and his jaw set tightly. Sorrow went to turn around and run away but she then realized that where he had taken her was a small rocky area in the woods that was filled with large boulders. She found herself pinned up against a large boulder that she couldn’t go around in time to save herself. Once the black pelted stallion reached her he began nipping at her shoulder roughly. She squealed in terror and then turned around to kick the stud. She managed to land a small futile blow to his chest, but this only seemed to excite him more. He then became stronger and more overpowering. Having her back turned to him was the worst thing poor Sorrow could have possibly done. He then reared up in full tantrum and covered her delicate body. She froze in horror. Her legs began shaking from his massive weight. The first thing she felt was immense pain. The stallion started biting her withers and crest, even drawing blood as he bit her. She tried to buck and kick him off, but it was of no use.

“Don’t fight it, dear, that’ll only make me want to hurt you more!” He whispered in her small, well curved ear. She shuddered at the masculinity in his deepened voice.

She relaxed her muscles in her back and legs long enough to stand painlessly while this all took place. Time seemed to all but stop. It was then that she realized his movements were becoming softer and more sensual. He slowed his pace down and then it all became rhythmic from there. Sorrow found herself actually pleasured by him. She closed her eyes and then threw her head back. A slight pleasured moan left her throat.

“Mmm, you’re so…delicate. It’s a real wonder you’re still standing.” He said, still keeping his pace.

But just as quick as it began, it ended just the same. He quickly dismounted himself from her and began walking away into the woods. Sorrow stood there, a bit hurt and confused. She looked after him and then a small tear came to her eye.

“Wait! What’s your name?” She asked, almost a plea in her now fail voice as she panted herself.

“Doesn’t matter…” Was all he said as he disappeared into the density of the trees and brush.

Sorrow, scared and now all alone, collapsed to the ground from exhaustion. Her body weak and tired. She found herself drifting more and more away from reality. Her mind was now becoming unconscious. She fell into a deep slumber all through the evening and into the darkness of the night. When she awoke, her pelt was damp from the foggy mist that surrounded the area. She couldn’t see farther than just a few feet in front of her. She was completely turned around and didn’t quite know what was going on. She arose from her recumbent position and shook herself off. Feeling pain throbbing along her back and legs, she then remembered what had took place. A shameful look came about her face when she remembered what she had done.

“How could I have been so very stupid?! What will my parents think? Oh no!” She began frantically rambling on aloud over her newly found quandary.

“You could always jump off a cliff, that seems to be the answer for most horses in your situation.” Said a deep voice from amidst the fog.

Sorrow turned around briskly and began trying to peer through the dense fog. Then she saw two yellow eyes gazing through. She trot into the fog towards them but they faded from her sight. She looked panic stricken when she was now lost amongst the haze.

“Help! Someone, please! Help me! I’m lost!” She began screaming out in fright.

Just then, the black pelted stallion emerged from the fog and grabbed her by the crest and roughly yanked her out of the denseness from the haze. “Will you be quiet you fool!” He shouted, ears pinned back and jaw set tightly.

She looked a bit happy to see him, even though he was near scolding her. He went to walk away yet again but she quickly trot in front of him, a frown on her face and her lower lip tight.

“No! You’re not leaving me!” She snorted furiously. “You better take me back to my homeland and explain what you’ve done to my parents at once!”

He cackled loudly, almost mocking her. “You are really in no position to be ordering me around, little girl.” He stared at her with cold dense eyes.

She grunted and started stalking away from him. Trying to make her way out of the area. He looked after her and cackled some more.

“Wrong way, dear.” He seemed to scoff at nearly every direction she tried to head towards.

Finally, after nearly going in every possible way she could, she came back to face him once more. Sorrow looked up at him with a pleading expression. “Please, just tell me how to get home…”

He then stepped aside and pointed behind him with his head and neck. “That way, just go straight all the way.” Then he started walking forward and away from her.

“What!? You’re not going to show me the way?!” She seemed flabbergasted at his vague direction.

“Nope. Sure not.” Then he quickly galloped off into the woods. She couldn’t even catch up to him before he completely vanished from her sights.

Sorrow decided to follow his directions and head for home. After awhile of walking she soon found herself on familiar territory. Things were looking like home to her. By this time it was already hitting early dawn and the sun was just beginning to peak through the clouds and the fog was starting to lift. After so much traveling, Sorrow finally came upon the hilltop that overlooked her homeland. She was surprised to see her family’s herd all in dismay. They were all franticly galloping around and seemed to be very distraught over something.

“What’s wrong everyone!?” She said in a worried tone as she trot drown off the hilltop hurriedly.

Everyone looked shocked to see her. Dia and Pieute both galloped over to her. Dia looked at her daughter’s body and began crying. A scornful sneer came upon her father’s face.

“Truth, What have you done?” Asked Pieute with great disdain. His ears flat back into his skull and his eyes lividly wild.

“What are you talking about Father?” Sorrow asked confusingly, unsure of what was going on.

Dia screamed out, “look at you! You’re tainted now!” She began hysterically crying over the sweat stains and dried blood that now covered her daughter’s once pure body…

Pieute could scent the semen from another male on her hind legs. It disgusted him greatly. Sorrow’s eyes filled with tears and her expression hurt, that her own family would look at her now as filth.

“You have dishonored this family…” Pieute said with disgrace and hurt in his tone. He shook his large head disapprovingly at her.

Feeling the hateful glares and ridiculed words now being cast and spoken by those of her former herd mates, she started backing away from them and her once loving and understanding parents.

“Dare I ask who it were to taint you?” Her father’s words so very icy. “I shall rue the day I ever had the faith in you, Sorrow, and that’s just what you shall be called from now on! You have disgraced us all, and for that you shall be exiled for all your meager existence.”

Just then, the black pelted stallion emerged himself from a small thicket behind the herd. “It were I, you inexcusable and unjustified fool!” He admitted rather braggingly. His posture was very cocky, unlike his noble stance back when Truth had first met him. He walked up to Pieute, at first facing the same direction as he. Pieute cocked an eye over at him without moving his head and then the black stallion whirled around to face him directly. Pinning his ears back threateningly to him he cast a sharp glare. Pieute took a step back from the charged stud and gave a snort as a warning to the fiery black steed.

“Leave my lands now, you turncoat!” He ordered as he furiously stamped at the ground with rage. Sharply digging away at the rough terrain below his large hooves. Then he threw back his head and neck, as if shooing him away, but it proved of no riddance to the new heated opponent.

The massive black pelted stallion reared up in full tantrum and struck out at the pale dun leader, who was beginning to cower by this point. However he too reared and stood ground, but not nearly enough to withstand against this considerably powerful rival. Hooves clashed and the blood began pouring from both stallions. Dia on one side and Truth on the other stood watch as this dismay unfolded right before their unbelieving eyes. Truth didn’t know if this stallion was fighting for her, or if he just wanted to kill someone. She didn’t even know this stallion’s name, and yet here he were fighting her own father. She thought to herself this must have been a dream. But sadly for her, this was only the beginning of her dreadful nightmare!

Moments later, the black stallion took another bound in the air and kicked Pieute directly in the head, sending him plundering to the ground. He landed with an enormous thud. It seemed as if the ground even shook a bit when he did so. Everyone in the herd watched silently in shock as their once reliable and unbeatable leader, now lay motionless in the dirt. Dia trot hurriedly over to her mate and nuzzled him gently, hoping to help him regain his consciousness. To her very relief, he stirred for a moment and then attempted to arise again to further match his rival in yet another fight. He could barely stagger to his hooves, much less rise.

“Stay down, you old nag! Or I will kill you right in front of your entire herd. So just lay back down and give up this futile fight if you know what’s good for you!” He blared his massively deep voice towards Pieute.

“Never will I bow down to the likes of you, turncoat! Take what you want from us, but you shall not have the leadership of this herd!” Pieute stumbled to his unsteady hooves and glared over towards the black stallion. Body halfway broken, heart aching, but his pride was the main thing that was damaged.

“I’ve already got what I so desired, old nag. And I shall take her with me, so what say you now?”

Pieute just turned his back and limped away, clearly giving his answer. His mate and herd slowly following behind him. Dia halted herself and turned back to glower at her daughter one final time. The look in her eyes made Sorrow break down and cry. To see her own mother have a heart filled with such hatred for her, it were to much too bear.

“Come…” Said the black stallion as he walked towards the mouth of the forest. Truth looked back after him, but was unsure what to do at this point. Her own family had all but disowned her and sentenced her to death, but she still didn’t fully known this stallion and didn’t quite know what he would do to her. But she had to go, it was her last chance. So she followed closely behind him and so began the new road to her future.

“So tell me…why me?” She asked as she walked slowly behind him.

He stopped for a minute, as did she. He never looked back at her, though. “I keep what I like.” He said truthfully.

She got a questioned look on her face. Unsure how to take what he had just said. “Well then, what do you plan to do with me…and…our foal?”

He whirled around sharply and snapped his jaws at her dominantly. “You shall refer to that thing that now develops in you, as your foal, not mine. Anything referred to me as that thing’s parent, and I will cut your throat, got it?” He said harshly.

She nod her head cowardly to him. But then regained her bravery seconds later to ask yet another bold question. “I wish to ask, what is your name? You never told me.”

“Death.” Was all he said as he continued to walk on.

She looked down at the ground, realizing what she was getting into and then followed him slowly. “Such a fool I am, but I love him, even now. I'm such a fool…” She thought to herself.

And so it begins…

Death + Sorrow = Pain
And Pain must have got the grey gene from her grandmother, eh? Makes so much sense now.

Poor sorrow, it wasn't even her fault!
LOVED the story, interesting how at the beginning her parents are fond to her, and then completely turn on her.

And yes, see how easy it is for things to turn against your favor? I felt bad for Sorrow, but in a way, she really did ask for it.

Yeah, I guess so...I wonder if Dia and Paiute ever felt bad? Considering that at the beginning she was looking for a mate anyway xD

Hmm, probably not, seeing as Pieute was to be the deciding factor in which he would choose her mate, he didn't want "turncoats" as he so called them within his herd. And there she went and betrayed his wishes. So yeah, probably not, I be they would still hate Death, for what he did, and Sorrow for what she let him do.
