I inhaled a deep breath of sweet air. The taste, so much cleaner and crisper than that of the air I was bound to breathe. I took another look around and all I was leaving behind; friends, family, loved ones and oh, the memories of it all.

Amelia, my companion, came to my side and put a comforting hand on my shoulder. "Are you sure you want to do this?" She always had the more adult viewpoint, the more protective nature. I just looked at her with a quizzical expression that said it all. She just sighed, and I watched her white-silk clad slim figure mingle with crowd, purchasing supplies.

I pushed past a dozen or so merchants, desperately trying to rid themselves of their wares as I wondered to myself that very same question. "Am I sure I want to do this?" With Arenia surrounded by Chaos, it seemed unlikey that any sane adventurer would risk the attempt at salvation. Yes indeed, several brave and valiant souls had risked their lives for their nation, and the only reward was a slow and painful death. It seemed now, Areania had forgotten how to be free, and was slowly rotting away in a constant, black depression.

Maybe I wasn't sane, but at least I wouldn't die in this place. I'd go out fighting.
