Description
FULL SONG ON YOUTUBEDOWNLOAD BR34CH HERE
This animation is dedicated to Lauren Faust. Thanks for making my life and the lives of millions of others a little bit sweeter!
Vinyl scratch is voiced by my little sister, Susanna .
She is Rainbow Dash made over again! Tough, mouthy, and almost as insane as me! I am very happy with her voice work on this. Thanks Zanna!!
This song was primarily written by my brother, Nathanael. I just added a few things here and there, and mixed it all together. Can anypony guess why it's called BR34CH?!
OK, That's it for now... Back to Inkscape... Finally!

So... I'm able to watch this using FireFox on one of the computers at school but not with Internet Explorer with my computer at home? Something tells me this isn't a browser issue, because I've been able to watch DA movies on IE before, on a different home computer.
Anyway - That was a really cool animation! Good job! The voice acting was well done, despite not being how I initially imagined her voice to be like. (I sort of thought of it as being like Elizabeth Daily's Buttercup voice.)

I could certainly see this voice being used in a brief cameo in an upcoming episode, it's so natural (cross fingers the producers see this), and really seems to fit the laid back aura of the character. That would be awesome.

Thanks Mr. Gryphon. You have done me a great service today.
...Also, You better have a store. Just checked out the rest of your music, and I feel like pushing my money at the screen, is not going to make the songs appear. D=

Okay, writing up all of this may keep me busy for a while, but not nearly as busy and fantastic as the work you did was. I'd swear you've taking some animation courses, or more so some serious study on directing. The zoomed in opening is a nice way to start to place the scene and what's going on, then we get to see Vinyl just being herself for a few moments. The head bopping is cute, though I'm surprised that have at least a slight backwards nod or some other "tic" during the missed beats: maybe it's a skill because I can't keep my movements in time without doing something to hold the beat. Next I like the change of expression when she notices the camera, a moment of surprise timed with a tail twitch. It makes the reaction seem stronger but not too strong.
The "No, come-here come here," looked and sounded sweet, along with the "Hey there" again once the viewer is close enough; the camera's nod was a great interactive touch there. Her whole little production of taking off the glasses is adorable too, very natural. Scratch contains her glee pretty well with the "bam" bit, though when she says to stop arguing her expression matches her nervous giggle perfectly. So no wonder she immediately put her glasses back on and cranked up the music.
Or I could just be reading too much into it.
Susanna did a terrific job with the voice, keeping it friendly and subtle, even with the "bam!" coming across playful rather than obnoxious. All throughout I got the sense of a confident and personable professional who has as much affection for others as she does for her work. For all my concern about the mouth synchronization it all turned out looking good.
You certainly expressed the idea of Scratch as an embodiment of electricity! Powerfully. The lighting gives the action a good kick in the saddle, and the scene brightens with the much more powerful bam, the lights and action accelerating smoothly (even if it is just a few seconds).
I am curious about all of the controls on the audience side of the table, since I'd expect all of the controls to be on her side. (It's not like she can't reach them via telekinesis, but I'm assuming you based this on a real setup.) If anything though it adds some realistic-looking and intricate detail to everything else; plus it keeps the opening where she turns down the music less "cluttered" with it.
Beautiful work on the rig and the light show, plus it's cool to see the ponies in the fog, under a beautiful starry sky, just before the music and the power overtake the scene.
BR34CH — Is breach some musical insider term? I'm guessing it's a pun on breeching too. It's a fun techno beat, and it does remind me of some of the hot '80s clubs. (The owed/ode switch was a nice way of acknowledging the style's roots.) Though I was never into the club scene, I think I can recognize parts that could have influenced several artists' post-80s sound. Kudos to your brother and you for putting together some great upbeat sound. (It's on my playlist already. )
You pulled together a fantastic little short for the pony fans (of all ages, too!), cute, funny and gorgeous. My thanks also to your brother and sister for their great work too.

YOU WROTE ME A NOVEL!!
I have kinda just been figuring flash out as I go, but I am SOOO glad you think it looks good enough that I could have taken lessons! Though, had I taken lessons, it probably would have taken me a lot less time then it did...
The begining of the video is my best attempt at mimicking the only scene from the show in which Vinyl Scratch appears. [link] I wanted to throw hard-core vinyl fans off guard by tricking them into thinking this was just another recycle clip. (I even put the 'Hub' and 'ei' logos in there for added realism. )
OH I SO LOVE THAT YOU CATCH EVERY DETAIL! Yes, I was going for a bit of a surprised look when she first turns her head. Hopefully a shared feeling, as the watcher should not be expecting her to notice them either. The tail twitch and hind leg walking where fun too, though I had a bit of a dang it moment when I started animating her speech, as I realised I had built the body, neck, and tail on one layer and had to redistribute them through the timeline...
I am also SUPER glad you caught on to the subtlety of her shyness! I wanted to make her appear confident, but not too arrogant or cold. (Everyone loves a sensitive pony...) Mom's voice was good, but when I actually synced her voice to the character, it seemed too (no offence mom) old. Maybe not even age wise, but maturity wise. I think the youthful spirit is part of Vinyl's charm, and though she may have come across to young to some, it was a risk I was willing to take to establish the much desired energetic, and somewhat unpredictable nature.
Susanna actually added the giggle herself! The script I sent her called for more of a quiet chuckle, a sound one might normally associate with smirking. It was hard to make a smirk-chuckle sound natural however, so I had to add a little bit to the end animation to incorporate Zanna's rebellious talent. Zanna was also pretty embarrassed about sending me the audio file. (One of the three I ended up using was labeled "Pooooop I sound so STUPID!!" ) Once she heard it in the animation though she was less embarrassed.
You know, I actually built that stage in inkscape as the whole power-on/zoom-away thing was a bit of a last minute decision... When Scratch sends off her final pulse, the entire animation transitions into a high rez PNG image saved from inkscape. (That was a pain in the flank to align!) Time wise, that three seconds of animation took the longest to make as I had to build an entire stage just for the ending. It was also unusually difficult to get the lights to track with the image! I had to bend my motion tween in the video so it didn't appear like the camera was accelerating as it moved farther from the stage. I ended up having to make all the stage lights on for the duration of the zoom out sequence, align the lights to their respective places on the first and last frames, combine the motion tweens on all layers from begining to end, then cut and remove each specific light layer where I wanted them to be off!
As for the controls in front of the DJ board. That panel is actually from a studio vector I originally drew for "Freaking Singin' Pony" but never ended up using. I didn't want to waste it and thought it might be cool to add it to her equipment. Maybe Vinyl can dance and still have easy access to her board from the front, eh? You're right though, I just wanted to add some unnecessary detail...
Also while I'm still in this paragraph, I wanna say that I'm glad you could tell it was an audience in the fog! I was lazy and didn't want to draw a thousand pony heads, so I scribbled a few grayscale layers, pulled a few ears out of them, stacked them on top of each other and added a blur. That should do it!
BR34CH was an attempt to cram as many hidden references into one title as possible! (It underwent many changes, from '4th Breach,' to 'Breach 4,' to 'BRE4CH,' to 'BR34CH.') the full meaning I ultimatly intended was that the song breaches the 4th wall (hence the 4) and is by DJ Pon-3 (Hence the 3.) A few people brought up the fact that it resembled R34, (Translation: Rule 34) and asked if that was intentional. I looked up Rule 34... Don't do it...
You also caught the Owed/ode thing! I think you're the first!!
My bro and I are huge fans of the oldies! (Our parents raised us well.) I maintain that there is still no modern music that lives up to the standards music did back then. Today it's just too easy. Fans want good looks over talent and most of the work ends up being done in computers. Still, Nate and I decided to go for a bit of a modern approach to 80s genius (as there seem to be few who appreciate non-digital music.) The only song most seem to recognise is Final Countdown. Probably because there was a recent remix by Eminem...
I'll close by saying THANKS!! I don't know what made you decide to spend so much precious time and thought on my work; all I know is that, selfishly, I am SOOOOO glad you did!! I may have stopped a long time ago if it weren't for you! I love being able to put something subtle into my piece and think "I'll bet Fairy Slayer notices this!"
I'll send this comment to my bro and sis! My mom has already read it. She says she wishes Dad could be that observant sometimes!

Of course I was going to run through your video several times and take note. (If I had the time, I'd have converted it and did a frame-by-frame breakdown.) Listening to the music a few more times is a must, to see if I can pick out more of the inspirations. For being so observant I missed the logos, at least consciously. They might have blended in and subconsciously added believability to the opening. As for writing a novel... My bad.
Maybe I should have held off a few days to tighten my words, but I didn't want to leave you hanging. However if I'd known my 3000 th deviation comment would come tonight then I would have.
I almost can't believe that people thought of Rule 34 even though your mother and sister were in on this. They're probably just busting your chops a little.
Calling the '80s oldies makes me feel like such an, uhm, oldie. The difference I see is that back then the musicians had talent but struggled to look ridiculous so they'd be noticed. There's a certain charm in that. Kloudmutt's "Wanna Dance " shows calls back Cheerilee's nice '80s look. (If the POV isn't obvious then try the second-most-ridiculous picture enhancement trick they use on CSI.)
Don't be surprised if this clip becomes unanimously fanonized in short order. It would be fun if The Hub asked permission to use this as a promo or bumper, but I've heard of only a few channels or shows that will do that. (And most don't pay.)
When it comes to Dad, he probably notices a lot more than he lets on. A guy who'll go on a brain-eating rampage with his family must be pretty awesome.
