Description
Sprites of the reporters Plumm and Ripot that I've used in Megaman Dissonance. The two debuted in the game Rockman Battle & Chase. Honestly, I always liked her design and felt bad she hasn't appeared in any games since...though Dr. Cossack and Duo haven't either...

I'm surprised, no Chest sprited.
Also, you may know me as Yllisos Zanon, from a certain websites forum.

Not sure why people claim not 8-bit.
They're just layered~

layers don't work like you think.

Then do entertain me with explaining how they do.
I mean, Ripot's got the correct amount of colors for it to be a 2-layered sprite. I guess Plum would need a third layer, but eh.
I'm probably more familiar with the 8-bit spriting rules than you think, except I tend to make it sound simpler than you expect.
In related news, heard about Pharaohman's NES sprites?

each 8x8 section of the sprite needs to have equal or less than 4 colors (transparency counts as a color)

Oho, so you ARE aware of THOSE rules.
And why, precisely, wouldn't layering work according to you?

There's a lot of sections where that rule is broken in these sprites. And for the sake of accurate MM style, bodies shouldn't have more than 1 layer and then maybe have another layer to be a face or an orb (or in other cases, a small other random part like Blizzard Man's gloves or Wind Man's chest)
But then again, Blackhook did clarify that he didn't intend to make them 8-bit

Someone with logic behind their words? Phew, I was almost afraid people like you were extinct.
However, I must still ask that you explain why that rule is broken here.
True, for accurate MM style, 2 layers is pretty much the maximum for sprites, but if it's NES games in general, I do believe there were some games that had 3 or 4 layers, for the sake of adding more colors and detail..
(Ofcourse, let's not forget the fact that Blacky tends to shy away from the actual NES pallette at times, but eh, different subject.)

Plum for example is a dead giveaway, her feet >area< has a total of 5 colors: white, yellow, white, black and transparency. or her arm section which has a total of 5 colors as well: white, yellow, skin, black and transparency.
Same story for Ripot's feet: 5 colors.

What I would like to know of you is why this isn't possible to layer.
Just out of sheer curiosity, I ask you this; why would it be impossible to layer? 2 layers, thus 8 colors of which 2 are transparant.. means 6 left. You're talking about 5 INCLUDING transparency..

It just ISN'T possible, layers work like this: there can not be more than 4 colors (including transparency) in every 8x8 area of the sprite, there are a lot of sections in the sprite where the rule is broken, therefore it's not 8-bit, it's as simple as that.
