Description I don't think I've been this happy with a drawing since... ever. It's got plenty of flaws I'm sure, but it's also the first time I've done a lot of things I don't normally do, and way more successfully than I've ever done them before: First time I've done a detailed background in a while now, finally got the hang of using the grass brush I made (at least I think so), played with a layer setting I've never used before, and most importantly (to me at least), this is the first time I've felt bold enough to use really dark, dramatic shading without freaking out over the fact it covers most of the detail in my line art/coloring.

Don't let the above fool you though: I would love critique on this, especially on the shading/use of color. Please don't hesitate to rip me a new one!

ANYWAYS. This is a mood drawing of sorts. I've felt strangely... detached lately. I'm not really sure how to describe it without being super TL;DR, but I got this image in my head aaaaaaand here we are.

ENJOY AND STUFF.

so awesome as always ^^
instead of using yellowish or grey colors for highlights (looks yellow to me for some reason) try using blues to relfect the moon's color. Also for some more cool stary effects use only a few white stars and lots of light grey and dark grey ones to give it more depth to the sky
everything else seems to be good to me, I'm especially lovin' the tree bark and grass! Frost looks very nice too ^^

It is yellow. But... isn't moonlight yellow? O.o After all, the moon itself doesn't emit any light; it's all reflected sunlight, so logically it would be like sunlight but much less intense. I could be way wrong on that though.
Yeah, I definitely should have varied the star colors/opacity a bit more. The sky looks a tad flat the way it is right now x.x
Thanks!

technically the moon has like a jagillion different shades lol, mostly when you see it at night it gives of a white/grey/blue color, not yellow. Yes, it does reflect the sun but the surface of the moon mixed with the suns yellow/orange/red gives a different color. I see where you are getting your logic but also when you look outside at night, it doesn't look yellow does it? I mean there can't be THAT much difference bettwen Rhode Island and Long Island lol. anywho, yes its usually a blue-ish tint that shines on the ground.
Btw's if you need help with sky stuffs, tuts and what-not I'd be glad to help out and show you how I do 'em, love doing that stuff ^^

Haha, apologies for the epic TL;DR ahead XD

Well, the moon itself doesn't have the various shades you speak of. It's all in the light. I feel like the blue you're referring to is more an effect of the lack of light rather than blue light itself (after all, "once in a blue moon" isn't a phrase used to describe rarity for no reason). In outdoor scenes (with normal lighting. this doesn't apply to crazy sunsets and stuff), shadows tend to be bluish, like the sky. At night, everything is mostly in shadow, thus everything has a bluish tint. Even if the moon's light is yellow-ish/white, the light it reflects is not very strong, so most things still retain a mostly bluish shade, even where the light hits them.
PurpleKecleon has a good example of nighttime shading in the "light sources" section of this excellent tutorial on color here: [link]
I will definitely concede though that I should have lowered to opacity on the highlighting layer. It definitely looks too yellow, especially on Frostbite's fur. I think a major factor contributing to that as well was the fact that I didn't make her original colors blue enough in the image, so the pale yellow light picked up on the greens in her fur and in turn got more yellow than they should have been x.x With that said, sorry if it sounds like I'm disregarding the validity of your critique, because you're definitely right that the image is too yellow! I'm just not convinced that moonlight is blue XP

lol I agree on the part that you probably didn't add enough blue in the base coloring, that's probably all she really needs in this case then.
Yeah I confused us, what I originally meant was that things touched by moonlight has a blue-ish tint ( I was going to mention it was mostly Frost's fur that looked too yellow but failed XD) So sorry to confuse, I totally didn't mean the moon changes color, although in its rarity like the blue moon and harvest moon in hence it turns blue or orange/red. In any case I think we've solved it, just wasn't enough blue in the original colors lol. Good job!

That is really beautiful! I love how the shading really shows how the moonlight shines on the char! Also very nice style, I really like it! It makes a nice change from all the more painterly type styles you see around here! Overall, amazing job!

HNNNNGHHH. OMGLOVE.
This is probably your best piece yet. Awesommmeeee work. Hearts all around

Critique wise, your attention to detail, even the shadowed over detail, is amazing. I love how when you look into the darker areas, you can still see the leaves, fabric folds, fur texture, etc. Lovely work.
Concerning the shadowing, it is very well placed, though it might be a little too shaded. Not way too much shaded, but just a little over that it makes it kinda hard to see the rest of Frost's body at first glance, especially down in the corner by her legs. Other than that, great work

Bwarhgshdhfj thank youuuu!

Yeah, it's definitely... pretty dark over there XD Still, I usually have the opposite problem (I'm afraid to make things too dark), so making it a too dark for once is definitely a welcome change! I'll have to keep in mind not to go overboard in the future though XD
