Description

    Sasha had just gotten off duty. She’d been on her feet all day, following up leads on half a dozen cases she’d been working on for the past month and had only just left the court house after testifying in a late afternoon trial. Now she just wanted to relax and take her mind off of the terrible reality of murder and betrayal…
    The usual weekly spectacles presented on Thornvale's public stage included local musicians and performers that were willing to give a free show to gain notoriety and score a few donations. Today's attraction, however, was quite different! According to the poster displayed beside the curtain, The Amazing Andrea had booked this evening for her one-of-a-kind, professional magic act!

    Sasha smiled as she made her way down the hillside walkway, her high-heels clacking on the cobblestone. The sight of such a well-known name in big, bold letters promised a quality show and she took a seat up front, eager to see what was to come. The golden twilight was blocked by the park's big oak trees and soon the buildings on the hill would stand in bold contrast before the setting sun. A soft breeze drifted over the pond, cooling the area and Sasha relaxed into contented peace, ready to give the show her full attention.

    She wasn't the only one; a good number of other residents had taken seats in front of the stage. Just as the last chair was filled, the curtains split open and Andrea bowed to the crowd! She was a pretty vixen, probably just a bit younger than Sasha. Her fur was a stunning shade of vibrant orange, contrasting perfectly with her black costume. Her tailcoat and slacks were spotless and her white blouse was starched and cuffed neatly at her elbows just beneath the coat’s rolled up sleeves. She wore a red bowtie that matched the ribbon on her top hat and the big one at the base of her tail. She smiled and moved with practiced ease, surprisingly swift and agile even in her high stiletto heels, her bright blue eyes taking in her audience.

    "Good evening and welcome to The Amazing Andrea's Personalized One-of-a-Kind Magic Experience! I hope you're ready to be wowed, because I can promise you tonight’s show will be one to remember!"

    Sasha clapped, joining the crowd in welcoming the fox on stage. She liked Andrea's sharp style, but it reminded her of her own situation. She felt terribly overdressed in her full three piece pantsuit and wished she'd had time to go home and change into something more casual…

    “Oh, aren’t you the fancy one? Hehe!” Andrea chuckled, pointing to Sasha! “Trying to upstage me, are you? Well come on! If you wanna see what I can really do, I'm gonna need a helping hand! You may as well have the honor of being my lovely assistant!"

    Sasha looked around and jumped to her feet when she realized Andrea was talking to her! "I'd love to!" She cheered, vaulting up onto the stage with little effort!

    The vixen giggled a bit, putting her hand on the wolf’s shoulder and leading her to center stage. "Well now, someone's eager! How about you go on and tell us your name, sweetheart?"

    "I'm Sasha Wolf, Special Detective. I'm also the co-owner of this estate, so welcome to our home!" She said, bowing respectfully. "I'm so glad to have this opportunity to watch you up close!"

    "Ohhh, well then, do let me thank you for leaving this area open to anyone willing to book the time!" Andrea smiled. A flourish of her right hand producing a single, smooth-stemmed red rose and she held it out to the wolf. "So Sasha, tell me; do you believe in magic?"

    "Well, um…" Sasha blushed. She wasn't sure what to say, but decided to just be honest. "Not really… I mean, I'm a detective. I have to stay grounded, though it's nice to pretend, at least, sometimes…"

    "Ohhh, so you're a skeptic, are you?” Andrea cooed, smiling slyly. “Well that's fine; I’ll just have to change your mind!" She closed both of her hands over the rose, then opened them, releasing a small burst of rose petals and sparks! She was left holding a pair of Police issue handcuffs! "You know, it's never a good sign when a detective can have her belongings stolen away so easily!"

    Sasha's hand reached instinctively for her cuffs, but found her pocket empty! "H-hey! How? How'd you get those?" She stammered in surprise!

    “Starting to believe there’s more to this than what meets the eye?” Andrea teased, flipping her top hat off and catching it with the opposite hand. She reached inside and began pulling things out, handing them over to Sasha as she went. The detective’s badge and wallet, her keys, her phone… Everything from her pockets popped out of the hat and into her open hands!

    The poor wolf could only stand there, smiling awkwardly, scarcely able to admit this pickpocket had managed to work her over so quickly! She knew she wasn’t in any real danger, but Sasha couldn’t help but feel like she was about to regret her choice of evening entertainment…

    “Come now, must I continue?” Andrea asked as she pulled one last item from her hat. Sasha's jaw dropped in surprise! The vixen was holding up a pair of lace panties, not hers, of course, but the audience didn’t know that! Her ears turned bright red as a sheepish grin spread across her snout!

     “Well, I must say you do have an impeccable sense of fashion!” Andrea quipped letting the soft pink garment hang from her finger, begging everyone's attention!

    “Oh? Do I?” Sasha asked, stepping towards her. “I also have an impeccable sense of duty! You’re under arrest, you panty thief!”

    “Wait! It’s just a trick! What are you doing?” Andrea recoiled as the wolf closed the space between them!

     “Being a good assistant and making us both look good!” Sasha whispered as she made a show of cuffing the fox’s hands behind her back, then replied loud enough for everyone to hear, “Just doing my job!”

    Sasha stepped away and Andrea appeared to struggle with pulling her hands free, until a puff of smoke went up from behind her and she stood slowly clapping her hands as if Sasha had done a poor job of securing the cuffs! “Bad form, Detective! I thought you were a professional!”

    Everyone cheered as Sasha turned her back, revealing the cuffs were locked on her wrists, pinning her arms behind her back, now! She had, of course, cuffed them there herself, having never put them on Andrea in the first place, but no one needed to know she was in on it!

    Andrea appreciated that Sasha had been a good sport, and had only been trying to save face but she still had one more surprise tucked away! She chuckled and drew a handful of feathers from her jacket pocket…

    “As punishment for a job so poorly done, Detective, I’ve got something special in store for you!”
