Description
This is one of my D&D characters I'm currently playing. It is an anthro only game so I came up with this dolphin anthro for it. The game hasn't progressed to far yet, but hopefully he'll survive through whatever the DM throws at him and the rest of the group. Was a fun picture to draw up. Oh and ignore the cheesy background

your stats suck, go with 18, 16, 14, 12, 10, 8, that way its even and you choose which ones go where. Plus I use anthropomorphic templets from the savage species book, the wolverine is the most badass anthromorph, dig speed 10, climb speed 10, 30 land, auto rage when hit, night vis, stat boosts like a mofo, but uses 4 levels, therefor at first level ECL=5, but well worth it, very much worth it

Interesting concept you selected, the whole D&D, Baulders Gate type of character class system was always so intriguing because it was always so complex and intricate
Now Iβll be brutally honest. I hate anthropomorphic under water animals. They donβt appeal to me whatsoever because giving them Human characteristics (like hands and legs) just donβt seem anatomically plausible as say a cat or dog that at least have hind legs.
As such then, it is very difficult to illustrate these specific mammals with believable human properties. You seemed to have illustrated the legs well enough to make me believe that it can walk with that obscure fin for a tail. The arms are nicely toned but are slightly incorrect as they bulge to far out and the elbow joint is more curved and less predominate that Iβd expect it to be from a character with well defined forearms and biceps.
The coloring is great and suits the background and character flawlessly and I cant complain about the face or its perspective because it looks like a dolphin (without making me vomit with disproportion that Iβd expect from aquatic creatures that naturally have a larger then body head)
The only real nagging flaw in this nicely drawn and colored piece is the hands which, I honestly believed you rushed. The human hand when outstretched should cover at least 85% of the surface area of the face, the fingers on these hands barely look like they could cover one side of his muzzle (or whatever its called)
Other then those I think this was beautifully done, just not perfect

Thanks for the critique but as to the hand thing they are approximatly the proper size if the head was that of a human. Obviously the skull on this anthro is much larger and protruding. Another set of reference you can use for hand length is that it can cover most of the length on the forearm, which in my picture is true.
As far as the elbow thing, he's wearing a chain shirt not a skin tight rubber swim suit so it's going to drap a bit.
Anatomy-wise who knows how anthro dolphins are supposed to work? I suppose in theory they'd work more along the lines of anthro snakes. That or they'd have the legs but no tail. Still they are mammals and most mammals have the characteristics of having four limbs and a tail so it could be argued that's what anthro marine mammals would be.
I keep a rather neutral view on all anthros myself. With an attitude like yours none of them should exist

oh heavens no, I love anthropomorphic work. I just dislike sea creature anthro
I just donβt see there slithering bodies working well with human characteristics. Only a handful I've seen so far have been able to pull it off, and basically in the end they only had the head of there respecting species, nothing else.
Although Im pretty sure that, the hand to surface argument I pointed it is still correct. The larger the size, the larger the hand. At least thatβs what I commonly see in anthro anyways.

I dunno, if that was the case this anthro could probably palm watermellons (Though I do notice that anthros sometimes end up with long gangley fingers)
Though if your asking for a more anatomically correct 'sea creature' anthro I suspect I'd have to go with the sea creature equivilant of a werewolf with hunched back, large chest ect ect. Certainly would look more like the 'real' thing since most creatures aren't designed to stand upright in the first place.

Yes I do!
I wanted to make a Dolphin Bard, but that campaign... er. Fizzled.
Obviously I'm biased towards your character.

*smiles*
Xilarn has been cool so far.
He's shrugged off searing desert heat (for the most part) and the fridged desert nights, and shrugged off snake venom like it was water itself.
Glad you and your mate like the picture ^^ I think dolphins are cool. If I didn't already have a dragon avatar, he might have been it

That's certainly a rarity, and a very nice one at that! Dolphin morphs are by far not the easiest to draw, but you did a really great job here ^^

Thanks, I guess dolphin morphs are pretty uncommon ^^
Who knows, maybe I'll I draw him a few more times in the future.
