Had to bail out Dippy again today. When we got there, she was hunched over the spilled contents of a dumpster, blithely slurping away. The sounds... oh my god. I try not to show too much discomfort because it's completely normal to her, but if I wasn't, like, debatably corporeal, I'm pretty sure I would have thrown up. Even Bellie comes close to losing her lunch sometimes when we bring home roadkill for her... the way whatever she's eating just *dissolves* as her mouth parts take it apart and suck it up, the way her proboscis unfurls and extends like a live snake... and then she'll notice you and just stare with those huge compound eyes with a sound like a hundred buzzing bees as her wings just vibrate...

sdfgflkd. NOT showing too much discomfort. I honestly wonder how much "fly" is in there compared to how much "Dippy"... I'd wonder whether or not they're one and the same but I swear sometimes they seem at odds with each other. Dippy never seems to realize what she's doing until she sees someone react to it, and then she immediately acts cowed. I honestly wonder, too, like... the "vampire horseflies" you see around here eat flesh and drink blood. they BITE people. I've never seen her do that... Maybe she's holding herself back? Or maybe that won't happen unless she gets too hungry... I don't want to imagine what she'd be like if she ever starved.

Is that really so different from ANYONE, though...? maybe they really are "one and the same"... hhhhhh, i don't know. We've reinforced the lab and tried as hard as we can to seal the cracks, and we're working on figuring out some way to, like, X-ray Bellie's ambergris so that something like this never happens by accident again, but... I don't want her to feel like she's a "mistake".

Y'know, maybe I should try communicating with her more. She can't talk and her arms have those wings instead of forearms, so... well, wait, doesn't she have those little arms too? She usually tucks them under her shirt, maybe she's embarrassed by them? I don't think I've ever seen her use a computer... but it's not like I'm looking at her EVERY SECOND OF EVERY DAY

Oh my god, I'm rambling. Gotta establish communication. I need to understand her better, in case she ever starves one day and we need to stop her from draining a block of civilians dry.
