sorry if I've angered anyone by doing so...I'm still trying to get a hang of this whole Lion King style so I need a little help with the poses..so chill! I'm not planning on becoming a Lion King artist..it's just for fun

Guys, I've given Blakem permission to use my picture as a reference! He's linked to both my gallery and the original deviation and that's all I wanted in return. <3 Besides, he's obviously re-drawn this himself and hasn't traced. (Photoshop overlay shows me that.

I'm sorry, but referenced is just a nicer way of saying copied. Why don't you just say the blunt truth? Saying otherwise just makes you look guilty. I take it this person gave you permission to copy their linework? If they haven't and they're seriously pissed off when they find this, things are going to get a lot worse than just a few angry lion king fans, believe me. It just looks WAY too similar to be called a reference.
It does look really good. But, I'm afraid I'm now too reluctant to say how good it is. Gotta make sure your back is completely covered, man.

I really don't understand what everyone's problem is...I haven't just taken his picture and claimed it's my own, I used it as a reference for the pose, sure I didn't change the pose, but the actual lion is different enough to not be a copy...I have credited the original picture as my reference...and I've asked the original artist if he is at all upset or angered by this whole mess..so we'll see what he thinks

I didn't call it a colour swap or say you stole it. Its obvious you redrew it and as I said its a lovely work. You should have put a link to the original work and commented on your use of it as a reference in the description as when lion king fans find stuff like this they tend to gang up and be quite mean. I'm not out to get you but one of my friends had to leave because they were silly and didn't cite their reference and got spammed abuse.

Good luck. Looking at some of 's comics might also help. I study his work a lot when doing poses as there is so much work you can cross reference without even coming close to copying any one work.

Um ok cool...how is using that picture as a reference leeching? If you looked in my gallery you'd see I've been drawing lions since like Sunday so I'm still learning, so I thought I'd use that black lion as a reference for the pose, what's wrong with that? It's a completely different lion now anyway.
Also art is all about copying, I would love to see you show me someone that has NEVER copied someone else's style to develop there own, or find me someone who's art is completely unique and had never been done before

There was nicer ways this could have been said. it would seem that you automatically presume that ~Blakem15192 has completely taken off another piece of art with the intention of gaining something from it and claimed it completely as his own.

He never said that. you were being an ass by making such a blunt (false) presumption. There was better ways to handle this situation and remember that although you are typing to a computer, a person is reading your messages regardless of wether you get to see their face or not, and there's a good chance you've caused them offence. of course in this situation ~Blakem15192 may have caused offence to the artist he took reference from, but this wasn't on purpose. the way you've gone about it, it would seem that you've made an effort to cause offence.
The reason you should go about things more delicately is because ~Blakem15192 is new to the style of Lion King and is still learning the ropes. messages such as the ones you sent can quite easily stamp out any wanting to properly learn the style and aren't great motivators to actually creating original Lion king art, even though i can easily tell that was your aim. and it is an aim i am totally supportive of. just next time, try seeing if copying is something the artist does on a regular basis, or if they have claimed the work completely as their own.

No worries about the wall of text. As for pointing out where I was 'rude' I will agree I was a bit harsh. And apologize for that. I am sure he is new to TLK style, and instead of referencing off other people's artwork, he can use videos from youtube of lions or photos of lions from flickr. After all that's how I learned. There are also tutorials of how to draw TLK lions on youtube you just need to know where to find them

Dude, honestly, my full respect for owning it. and thanks for understanding. Yeah i'd suggest this too, i myself am hopeless with any disney style full-stop so wouldn't really know where to start. And i should apologise for attacking from nowhere, he's just a mate and i get defensive of friends who are just starting out with their art and are still trying to find a style.

Oh and if your friend is curious for further inspiration, they should check out The Lion King Fan Art Archive. Albeit it's full of whiners and crybabies(pretty much why I've stopped visiting, that and I am addicted to MLPs right now) who whine over the stupidest reasons daily but the art uploaded there is really inspirational

Lol indeed. I think the worst fandom is the sonic fandom. That fandom is a cluster fuck of whiners, thieves and crybabies. There's only a handful of fans who actually do hard work on their artwork without having to resort to tracing other artists, recoloring, or using bases and that's excluding the artists for the sonic comics.

i have seen some amazing, even very original sonic fanart. but unfortunately any decent sonic artist get a bad name because of the fandom. it is sad really and in the end a lot of people need to get over themselves and accept that regardless of anything, no one really gives a shit xD

Ok maybe I worded that a little wrong, but seriously how do you learn a new style or learn anything really without copying or mimicking someone else first? I've said multiple times now that I'm only new to this Lion King style so I can't magically draw amazing poses on my own, so I needed some help. I know what it's like to have my work simply copied and uploaded onto someone else's account, it sucks! but this is different, the lions are different enough, they just share the same pose...so please calm down!
KaiserTiger, the original artist has allowed me permission to keep Shawn up and he doesn't believe it to be a copy, so there is no reason for anyone of you to think the same

The way I learned poses is by looking at images of lions in action whether on flickr.com or on youtube. There are tons of artists who learned from masters before them but they never traced or copied off their original art. They took the inspiration they got from what inspired them and went from there in their own unique way. So many people these days use the inspiration card to trace. I see you've got potential, just try not to go down that path.

I'm not planning on filling my gallery with lions, they're not my thing. It's just a side thing I'm doing at the moment, but thank you for the compliment. I just never imagined how intense TLK community could be, so this whole situation kinda surprised me, but has definitely helped me as well...I really hope we don't need to fight anymore haha

They steal from everyone and pretty much consist of recolorists, crybabies and basers. There's only a small handful of actual sonic artists that are original and don't recolor cartoon stills or bases or other people's artwork.
