Great job! This is not only beautifully done, it also makes the viewer wonder and speculate.
Such a set-up as you imagine here would give us a fantasy story with a female main character, a predominantly female cast, especially in the first three books, a female villain and a collection of female mentor figures. This story would focus on a non-romantic plotline, and while the main character would still have to marry in the end, her partner Gino would still be younger, untypically, and not consitute the single path towards happiness.
Judging from the selection of fantasy stories currently on display in our bookstores, one answer to the "what if..." question must therefore be: We cannot be certain that such a novel or series would even get published.

It's weird because even though I am female, I am still more strongly drawn to books with a predominantly male cast. I feel like young adult/teen books with female leads focus too much on emotions and love triangles (i.e. Twilight & Hunger Games) whereas those with male characters (Artemis Fowl, Percy Jackson) are less...whiny. Or maybe I just have bad luck in choosing books.

Ah, no you don't. I know exactly what you mean. The current market is extremely gendered and horribly prejudiced. It is no accident, after all, that novels with female leads get published less often and, if they do, have to contain some sort of love story.
There is an assumption out there (in Hollywood, too - same with movies) that boys and men will not develop any interest for a story, which doesn't feature a male figure of identification. And because this is never expected of them and they never get any training in this area, for many this might even be true. Empathy for other beings and especially for beings different from oneself is a training and a development process. We, as a society, don't train our men to empathise with women enough - I think.
Thus, literature with female leads caters to supposedly female interests, like love and marriage. Not something I find particularly interesting myself, at least not if there is nothing else to sustain a novel/storyline.
But I, too, am having an emotional conflict about it - I want to like books with female leads. There are just so few out there, which actually treat female characters as respectfully and as much as full (fictional) human beings as male characters are usually treated.

I only saw the movie, I'll admit, but my wife told me the first book was extremely well written and that Katniss was one of the best female fantasy characters she had seen in a long time. Which is saying something - she is much more of a reader than I am. Like you, she didn't like the sequels, though. She says that the entire construct begins to fall in the second (and third?) part of the series when the love triangle is explored or becomes more central or something like it. The exact same effect that we've discussed earlier. It's aggravating, somehow.
Whenever I've got the time, part one of the Hunger Games is definitely on my 'to read' list, though.

I feel like Collins *almost* succeeded with this in the Hunger Games. Although there was clearly a set-up for a love triangle since book 1, we can see from the start that it is Peeta and Gale, not Katniss, who are more inclined towards the whole love/emotional drama. Katniss has always been detached, and her exploitation of Peeta's feelings to win the Games shows she is not a typical weak and love-struck female lead.
However, I feel like everything book 1 stood for was ruined in the final book. Katniss becomes a shell of her former self and cannot function without Peeta's support. Such a tragedy, as the books had so much potential!
